I do not drive a truck, but I am dedicated to coming up with cost saving fixes for truckers.
Many of my customers have been reporting a problem with Cat injector seats in the head, not being concentric with the injector bore, on C-15 / C-16 / C-18 / C-32 / 3406E style heads. This off-center condition does not allow the injector to seat the whole way around. This causes:
#1 Injector seals fail prematurely (which causes)
#2 Short burst of white smoke at start-up #3 Injector miss under heavy load.
#4 Injector seats erode away which worsens the problem. ** Visible indication ** If injector is bluish above the seating area, that is an indication that combustion heat is getting by the seat. As you can see in my previous pictures. The seat is not concentric. This would have prevented the injector from seating on the uncut side, causing the injector tip to overheat due to poor heat transfer. This could cause the tip to stick. This could also allow combustion to access the o-ring, causing it to fail, which would lead to a misfire, due to combustion in the fuel.
The injector ONLY seats on the upper area of the seat.
I machine the whole seat area, until the injector seating area cleans up. By machining the seats with the head installed on block, corrects any distortion that torquing may introduce. Note: The injector does not touch the injector tube. Cat has no repair for this, and recommends replacing the head. It also has been reported to me that remanufactured heads have often been found to have the injector seats badly eroded upon purchasing the head.
Replacing a head can cost as much as $8500.00 (not counting truck downtime)
I can machine the injector seats with the head installed on the block, for a fraction of the cost of replacing the head. (minimal downtime)
I will travel anywhere that I am needed.
If any one is experiencing any of these symptoms, please message me.
I can save you thousands of dollars, and much downtime.

I searched your previous posts for pictures, as you stated here, but could find none. Did I miss them?
If not, could you post some clear close-ups here, of the non-concentric seats and the resulting injector bluing/overheat & leakage signs? -
Picture seem to be missing. I thought that I had attached them. I will try again

So just replacing inj cups will not fix this problem?

How do you keep the metal shavings from going into the combustion chamber when you do this while the head is on the engine?
