Hi everyone. Im new to this site and thank everyone in advance for any info! I just recently bought a 1996 Peterbilt 379 with a cat motor. The engine serial number plate is long gone and I have read on here that it is also stamped into the block passenger side rear...i cant find it anywhere. Im wondering if its possible to get the engine serial number from the truck vin number? Maybe this is a long shot but worth a try. The truck vin is
1XP-5DB9X-3-TN395836. Thanks again for any insight!
Cat engine serial number help please

My old 3406A was missing the S/N plate as well. I found nothing at the passenger rear but I did find the engine S/N stamped on the driver's side of the block. It was an inch or 2 below the head and about 2/3 of the way back. Don't know if Cat was still doing that in '96 though.
