    Is there any differences in a 2006 c-15 vs a 2007 c-15 in a Peterbilt 379?

if they are both have a NXS prefix they are pretty much the same engine. I do believe that some time around late 06-early 07 there were a couple of minor updates done, but even an engine that didn't come from the factory with the updates might already have them if it has been in the shop.

    jmorris3288 Thanks this.

Just don't buy a cat motor with prefix SDP. If you do, you will wish you had done something smarter, like play Russian roulette ... But instead of 1 bullet out of 6 barrels, more like 5 out of 6

SDP is caterpillar's attempt to meet emissions and is likely the worst engine ever made. It was their last engine before they decided to exit the on highway market.

I would take a bxs with 6nz ecm over any of the acerts. I have a rocking SDP in one truck that's been converted to 6nz that's a beast as well but if you couldn't do the work yourself stay away from that particular engine. Stock SDP with dpf filter is not worth the scrap price for metal.

I know about the sdp and I already had my eyes on it. A spark plug on a diesel engine, complicating dpf, too much **** and sensors. what about mxs/nxs. My dad's cousin marked million miles without rebuild and break down.

Nxs is basically newer version of the mxs. I do not know the difference between two hardware wise. I would imagine cam is different trying to lower emissions. I know of several mxs around this area, but don't know of any that have not had stuck actuators and broken rocker bolts. This problem can be very damaging to engine and very expensive if you are not lucky. They are an overall decent motor and still fairly easy to convert for horsepower and fuel mileage later on when you get tired of replacing bolts and actuators. There is some tuning available for both that will help with the poor economy. If you are considering buying one, I wouldn't be discouraged about it at all they are some good ones out there stock.
