found a 1997 peterbilt 379 daycab with a cat C10. I know it’s small but max load will be 38-40k. Is this a good engine and is the 38-40k to much for the C10? I don’t know much about cats

The one I drove in 1998 blew up and left me stranded off US82 in Mississippi.
Walked a couple miles to a roadhouse and called Maintenance . First time I heard the classic trucker phrase (delivered deadpan), “Yeah, they’ll do that”.
We ran ours a lot harder than you’re indicating. Still made it to 480k miles. -
A c10 yikes. What’s that like a 300-330hp engine?

Load of 40,000 or gross of 40,000? Because that will be a big difference.
If all you are doing is running warehouse to warehouse shunting trailers in a single city, never hitting a highway, it'll be great. Highway trucks need far more power than that, especially if you come across any sort of hill.
I'm amazed that someone ordered a 379 with such a tiny motor through. Even a large number of the 378's from the late 90's and early 00's had C-12's. -
I have a C10 in this furniture truck, 300hp w/Allison 6 sod, this thing is a race car-not sure how it would be pulling the kind of weight you do.
I would hold out for a bigger engine. -
Are you sure it's a "379" ? Who's the seller ?

I haven’t went and looked at. It’s about 2 hours from my house. Figured I’d ask about the C10 before I even considered. I’m thinking it’s going to be to weak but I do have a Volvo d12 that isn’t no powerhouse but gets the job done.

yeah if it's really a c-10 that's small power. Think it thru carefully
Jasonar15 Thanks this.
