c-15 should be all you need bud i love big cats but i think the c-16 is overkill even if ur running in the white mountain range just set the c-15 at 550hp full torque and i believe thats all the power u will ever need round these parts

You can easily get the same HP out of either, however the C16 will have a little more to torque. There are plenty of 700+ HP (at the tires) C15's running around. Most of the hard parts are identical for both engines. For only $1500 more I would probably go with the C16 but both are a turbo and an ECM flash away from 800+HP. Don't look at factory HP ratings they don't mean anything.

The difference between these engines is significant in stock trim when driving the truck. The C-16 will have more torque and bottom end grunt than the C-15. Usually fuel mileage is sacrificed with the C-16 in stock configuration when compared to a C-15 550 Hp by 0.2 to 0.3 mpg. Also you will have to purchase larger rears and transmission to go behind the C-16 if you are having Western Star supply a rolling glider if you want a warranty on them.

As others have said each engine is easy to modify for big power, but you will lose the engine warranty doing this

I was told the only difference is the cam. I dont really see needing more then 600hp and 2050T from the C-16. Even that might be over kill for what I need but I think it will be nice to have at times. We are putting 46k full locking rears in this so we should be good on the rears. I was told that going with the C-16 will bump up the cost of the 18 speed by about $2300.00

I also need to let them know what I would like for a exhaust set up. They can from the factory run dual 5 inch or 6 inch with no mufflers if I would like. I would like that deep sounds but dont want the thing to give me or the other guys driving a head ache. What do you guys think?

The C-16 and C-15 engines use the exact same camshaft and injectors part numbers. The difference in these engines is the crankshaft stroke and a larger cylinder bore diameter in the C-16, along with the turbo and the flash file in the ECM. Otherwise they are the same engine and parts will interchange between them.

If you need 46K rears in a tractor.......go with the C-16

Either engine will produce a considerable amount of noise with straight pipes and give you a headache, earache by the end of the day

Yeah, us Milton guys rule!!!! and a c16 is a very good engine, I have worked on them and the owners love them, We had one in our transportation fleet when i worked for carter and the only problem we had with it was a blown head gasket. this is pre- acert so no VVAs to worry about. is it a 600-625 hp??

It would be a 1998-2002 year model 600HP motor. I guess I could go for the 625hp. Any difference other then 25hp?

rerating depends on if the transmission can handle it or not and you might have to change injectors or turbo. sometimes you can just rerate with new software. Look at the torque differences if you rerate it. sometimes you get 25 more hp but the torque rating stays the same.
