Have a Cat c-12, Starts then Derates after 5 seconds with engine shutdown lamp..(automatically shuts down)
Now, After I Restart it between 15 -20 times its Fine- Only Time it does this is when engine is Cold (First thing in morning) Getting real old real fast-Hard on my starter.........Once warmed up-Fine all day
I DO NOT have Cat -ET to check faults or codes-Nor do I want to have it done either.
Oil pressure is excellent at the gauge-(mechanical) Water temp sensor replaced
Could all this be from a faulty oil pressure sensor? Thanks in advance fellas
Cat c-12 Derate and stop engine Light at first start-up

Coolant level may be a little low. Once it warms the level increases to cover the sensor. Easiest way to repair is to connect to a scan tool & read the faults. Cheaper than throwing parts at it.

Does it give you any flash codes? It's possible that an oil pressure sensor could be acting up when cold, but it could also be something else. Blindly swapping parts can quickly add up to a lot of time and money. If you can't get any flash codes out of it, I'd find a small shop with a code reader that won't charge you much to get the faults out of it.
Cat's will only show active faults when pulling flash codes, so I'd try to pull them on a cold start as soon as it gets an engine light. -
Ok,Thanks Guys,Hey GrapeApe, Are you Adept Ape?
No Flash codes Because I Removed the amber engine warning lamp many moons ago-
Boy I wish an OBD 2 would hook up to these engines
Anyway, Looks Like I have No Choice but to get someone to scan it- I Hate having Others work on my Truck. -
You should be able to find a small mom and pop type garage that will help you out. If you're stuck with a dealer that wants to charge a min of an hour labor at over $100/hr, you can buy a decent code reader yourself for that.
