I bought a Cat engine barring tool, it's in the mail. Simple design, socket type with teeth to turn the flywheel for valve adjustments ect... Wondering if this will work on Cummins ISX? I don't see that (Cummins) turning tool online so far.. Thanks!

Why not try it and let us know if it worked?

If not .. is there a flywheel housing barring/turning tool for the Cummins ISX, NT/NH, N14?
    Google has produced no fruit..

No, the Cat tool worked great for the Cat 3176, the same tool is used for the majority of the Cat line up. C11, C13, c15 and more. We did have trouble locating the barring tool port. On my 3176 engine it was top right of the flywheel housing behind a transmission filter housing on a Cat 730 articulating dump truck- hard to get to but not impossible- job is done. The Cummins ISX uses a simple 3/4 socket wrench on the front left of the engine. You must remove the small 2 bolt access plate then insert wrench to the cog. Dosgatos was nice enough to post this procedure above on this thread; just scroll up and have a look. You will need to get the marks ABC situated on the harmonic balancer after that. I'm assuming you are setting valve lash?

Clutch adjustment .. I was hoping to use the flywheel bell housing barring hole that's accessible from under the truck

Ok. I know that is possible for sure but I personally have not done that- yet. I’ve had mechanics do that on our trucks in the past

I have never had to use a barring tool for any clutch adjustment. Just bump it over with the starter. Once you get it close, fine tune with a pry bar thru the inspection hole.

Pro tip- during any clutch replacement. Put the adjuster at the bottom. The engine is at a natural resting place when it was shut off. One in three shot it stops in front of the opening during service/ adjustment.
