Having problem with a c15-6nz went 1 million then I overhauled it. 18000 miles later I overhauled it again because of 2 scored liners. No warranty because of 600 programming in a 550 and marine cam(voids warranty per cat) now 60000 later (stock cam and program) #6 is using oil (just 6). Everything is apart and no cause found....expected broken oil ring or valve guide....nothing wrong. Head going to machine shop today to be pressure tested. Anybody else having issues with cat genuine rejunk parts?

I have an oil comsumption issue after a rebuild on a C15 also, have just been living with it to this point. How did you determine it was only #6? (Pulled exhaust manifold I'm guessing)? I am thinking of doing that come spring.
-
Pulled turbo, back half of manifold full of oil, pulled manifold and #6 covered. #1, #3, #4 valve stems slightly wet #2, #5 dry #6 wet. I started to notice the smell of burnt oil just when I pulled out on the first pull only after morning warm up. No smell rest of the day. Went from 1/2 gallon every 6000 miles to 2 1/2 gallon in one oil change cycle. If you can swing it, replace your manifold with the ported, polished one. $1750. from Pittsburgh Power with gaskets. The throttle seems to respond quicker. No telling on fuel mileage as I only got to put 300 miles on it before this visit to the shop. Others that I know that run the manifold have seem up to 1/4 mpg so it will pay for itself within a year. And it look bad az with their non waste gated turbo ($2450.)

I have a friend who is on his third Cat inframe in a year. Luckily for him, under warranty. After bugging the shop manager every day for two months, and then the area rep for a while, they finally overhauled it. They then broke it in on a dyno. It went a month and started using oil again. Bad. the third time, it was just rings and liners. The rep finally admitted they got a bad batch of liners. They will do just about anything to not have to honor that warranty.

Tell me about it, I've been fighting with cat for the past couple of weeks trying to get them to cover my oil consumption issues under the warranty.
But, they finally washed their hands of it, so I'm just rebuilding it the way I want and the way the bank account let's memickcuster Thanks this. -
Makes me wonder about mine. 150,000 on the inframe and runs great, good power, good mpg's no complaints at all there. But has always burned a gallon of oil, sometimes gallon and a half, between 12,000 mile oil change intervals. In the winter when I idle the truck more it will sometimes burn thru 2 gallons between changes. Which of course is expected from excess idling. Mechanics on here say it should burn none after an inframe. Mine never did burn oil before the inframe or not so much that I had to add any. But some people say they have never seen a C15 that didn't burn oil so who knows.

Thats nothing to be concerned about. I've had a bunch cats now. 2 E models,1 B model ,1 c15.
Every one of them would be at the add on dipstick by the time it was ready for an oil change. 12,000 miles. -
A gallon between oil changes has always been the way my cats have run. Triggtrucking I don't know the whole history of your motor but a cracked or bad ring sounds like a possibility especially if the head is in working order. I had one 4 yrs ago I thought ring went bad but turns out the head was cracked #3 cyl. Replaced the head and so far so good. 400,000 miles later still running great.
