How do i know if my 3406c in my 97 LTL 9000 is a PEEC motor or not. There is a throttle linkage from the pedal to the injector pump. The only reason i ask is because i drive a similar 9000 that is a 95 with a 3406c and they absolutely sound nothing alike. My 97 also has a engine shutdown overide switch which leads me to believe that it must have some electronics while the 95 does not have that switch.

If it has mechanical throttle then its not a Peec motor peec will have a potenteometer on the throttle pedal

Then what would the difference be between the 95 and the 97 and the shutdown override switch. i wish i could remember the serial number on my engine. the 95 just seems to sound more mechanical during idle as where the 97 sounds like its more electronically controlled. the 95 has a low rough choppy idle whereas the 97 has a nice smooth high idle.

The 97 is Probly an e model the overtide switch is for the shutdown system that's why u have to hold the override switch until you have oil pressure

My best guess is that the truck has an engine protection system on it that kills the power to the solenoid if oil pressure drops or water temp gets to high. The override is so you can get it off the road if something happens and it shuts down.
Pictures of the engine or a serial number would identify the engine for sure. -
I said the 97 was most likely a 3406e I might b. Wrong but I don't think you could get a 3406 a b or c on 97
pretty sure the 3406e was the only one don't take my word for it he said the 95 had throttle linkage which means its am a or b I thought a c was a orb motor -
no, they both have throttle linkages. i will be back on tomorrow with a serial number for my engine. i have the vin handy but i doubt that would help. i appreciate all of the responses and i hope im not too much of a pain in the ###. i just like to be knowledgeable of my equipment.

The mid 90's offered the 3406C mechanical (s/n prefix 3ZJ,8PN), 3406C PEEC (s/n 8TC, 4CK, 5KJ) and then the 3406E model with an early prefix of 5EK. Truckmechanic was correct in that the mechanical engine will have a metal throttle linkage going to the governor at the rear, side of the pump. The fuel system will have six metal fuel lines that connect up to the cylinder head. The PEEC is part mechanical (fuel system) and part electronic (governor). The PEEC will have three wires coming out of a circular looking BTM (electric throttle) on the side, rear of the fuel system. The wires will go to a connector (along with two other connectors) that are held in a bracket on the top or very rear of the fuel system "governor". Right behind it is a large rectanguler box with wires going to it, which is the ECM. The 3406E will not have the fuel system at all, only the ECM toward the rear of the engine.
