I've never seen this engine before, installed in road mashine. Cab was damaged with fire inside and I cant imagine what kind of engine controll is used. It is hadred miles from me and I wanna know what to expect. Is it simple engine with injection pump ore... something more sufisticated? was any electronic control used?

is the mechanical injection available only? Mecanically controlled pump ore EDC injection pump with ECM?

This engine I only remember in not many trucks. It was in 1970s 1980s most people had the 3208 or went to 3406. Cat had them in machinery though so they may have put electronic on them I don't know. I know they were in D8 dozers and 966 loaders so maybe

We some in a Volvo day cabs for a while, finally sold them. The only thing problem that sticks in my mind was the shut off solenoids. They go bad and the truck wont shut off. We used to keep a spare one in the trucks and taught the drivers how to change them on the road. The other problem wasn't the engine, it was Volvo, the coolant tanks cracked a lot.

We had one in a Steiger farm tractor many moons ago. But it was a pre-cup version and I know they also made a direct injection one too. Isn't that the same as a 3176?

The 3306 was used in a lot of truck applications as a HP bridging application between the 3208 and 3406. The EPA allowed Caterpillar to keep the engine on the market up until around 1998 or 2000. It is a sturdy engine if maintained properly. The last built engines had acceleration issue because of air-fuel ration settings.
