I am a company driver and will be driving a 2-014 Cascadia. I work for an o/o. When he bough the truck it was speced for deck work and does not have the fender/hood mirrors. My last truck was an old Volvo and it has large round fender mirrors. I did use them in heavy traffic. Anyone here driving a Cascadia? Do you use those fender mirrors? They are an odd shape and I wonder if it is worthwhile asking the owner to install the mirrors? Thanks

I have them on mine and use them constantly. My previous truck did not have them so I am familiar with both elements. They do make life easier.

I use mine all the time. Too many small cars now that can and do hide between the coverage area of the convex bottom mirror and the front tire on the blind side. Saved my ### more than a couple of times. Adjust them right and you get almost full coverage down the side

KANSAS TRANSIT and Dinomite Thank this. -
The Crapcadia has the worst mirrors in the business. All six mirrors on the Crapcadia suck. I have larger mirrors on my pickup.
The fender mirrors are a huge safety benefit. I don't care if someone thinks they look ugly, I am driving a truck to make money not to impress anyone. That said, the factory Crapcadia mirrors are better than nothing but still worse than the ugly universal mirrors some put on trucks. The factory Crapcadia fender mirrors give you good view of the hood, fender, and a couple of feet beside the fender. That is the problem, I don't need to know what my fender and hood looks like, I like to be able to adjust the fender mirror so I can see all along the whole truck. You cannot do that with the crapcadia factory fender mirror.
You can also adjust the mirror on other trucks to the edge of the truck and use it as a bumper indicator. This will let you reference where the fender bumper are when maneuvering in tight spots.
The door mirrors are just the worst on any truck and one of the prime reasons I hate the Crapcadia. -
Not sure what deck work has to do with whether or not you would want those mirrors.
I think they're great. I can see a lot more than just the hood and fender. Maybe the ones on Toomanybikes truck were somehow not mounted properly. I would ask for them if I were you.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
I can see traffic 2 or 3 lanes over, closing, with either side, if they are properly adjusted. the mirrors move quite a bit, also looking out the windows, the shorter flat mirror has a smaller blind spot to check(what the mirror blocks). The mirrors are easy to adjust, and the flat ones have remote control as standard. The first thing I do if I'm in a different truck for any length of time is to adjust the mirrors, all of them.
The fender mounted ones don't fog as easily as the ones on the door, so you can see usually stil see things while the heated mirrors are clearing.
The only thing the Cascadia mirrors have less of than the round ones is a little vertical coverage, and that matters only if you are checking for aerial pursuit, you lose too much perspective to see that much with the edge of the field, and the rounded oblong mirrors have less distortion from my experience

The universal, either the tripod or the bracket mounted ones, are much better than factory Crapcadia and much more adjustable. I would ask for them. It is your license and if you get in a accident you get to explain it for the rest of you career not your bosses. -
THanks for all the replies
