The drivecam has a camera that faces the road and a camera that faces the cab of the truck. It is always "on" but only records when an even triggers it (8 seconds before the event and 4 seconds afterwards). When you are parked and close the curtains the camera can not see you so there is no invasion of privacy during breaks. I have reviewed a couple videos from my camera with people in the office, in one video I was obviously following too close, I knew it from the moment I had to get on the brakes hard (atlanta traffic). I was just told that I needed to be more careful in the future and watch my following distance. So far I have not heard of anyone getting fired because of the cameras, the companies stand point is that its there to teach the driver to be safer and to help in situations when there was an accident that was not the drivers fault.
I only live 10 minutes away from our terminal and I am an OTR driver. We do have "regional" drivers, I believe that they are technically suppose to be home all day sat/sun and work Mon-Fri. From the ones I have talked to they rarely get more than 2,000 miles a week, 1500-1800 seems to be the average. As an OTR I average around 2,500-2,700 miles a week for the year. On electronic logs in a 63mph truck I have done as much as 3,700 miles in a week and still been home both weekends (and one night during that particular week). The regional drivers stick to a fairly localized area, think Washington DC to Atlanta and inbetween where as OTR drivers could be any where.
Your location lists you as Gaffney so I would assume that there would be no issues being home every weekend as an OTR though being home during the week may depend on if you have a load going by Gaffney or not. A recruiter would have to tell you more and I personally could not guarantee that you would be home every weekend but with the amount of freight we have coming in and out of Charlotte as well as the upstate of SC I can not imagine you not being able to be home.

Thanks Joey, that clears it up a bit about the drivercam. So it doesn't seem to bad and may actually help you if involved in an accident where you weren't at fault. Whats the starting pay? If I call tomorrow, I'll mention your name. Do you guys have steady customers, or is it lots of broker freight? Thanks again.

A month or two ago when they announced that they were going to put the cameras in every truck they included some statistics/figures about it. Supposedly they have helped the company avoid a few potential lawsuits/settlements already and have cleared drivers of wrong doing in a few accidents. So far it appears that they are truly here for our help/protection.
There is some broker freight though the only way a driver would ever know is if he saw the brokers name on the BOL. All of the load assignments are sent via Qualcom, we never have to talk to or deal with the broker. They have a lot of regular freight/customers, I would guess that all of the freight out of the carolinas is from regular customers and a lot of the freight in NJ/PA/OH/IL/GA/VA/NY are from regular customers as well as certain parts of FL and TX.
Im unsure of the exact starting pay, I started two years ago (out of a driving school) and got 37.5 cent a mile, im up to 40 cents now. I believe that the more experience a driver has the higher the starting pay but to be honest I don't pay attention to it anymore. -
Cargo transporters are a good company to work for.. Their drivers are happy working for them.. they get to be home for most weekends, plus good miles.. their equipment is good, well maintained and drivers dont have anything to complain about.. they are more than happy with the packages..

Im glad to hear this information too, as I spoke with these guys this week and realy considered going with them. I was off the road a while due to illness, and only been back 3 mths now. They offered me a job along with Arnold, Marten, Con Way ans Sal Son, but I like the fact that Cargo is rather small and thats sometimes better than the big truck companies. They told me with my experience im looking at .40 cents starting guaranteed 25-2700 miles plus a week and weekend homes. Me living off of I95 in N.C and them being based out of NC also is a plus. Recruiter also said all trucks have APUs but they are auto shift..which isnt my thing but I could get used to it. She did mention a per diem, didnt ask her if it was mandatory but I will. I got to say that all she said has been said again on this thread and thats a first, usually companies will try to bait you into joining but according to you all it seems like facts. I think I will call Leah tomorrow and discuss this further. I apperciate the info as well.

I've been with Cargo for 2 1/2 years, and it is a decent place to work. Most of the folks on the second floor do remember your name. I live about 10 minutes from the terminal and get home every weekend. Xurrently, Cargo is going to all Cascadias (auto-shift). We dont have APUs, but a night system instead. It rums off 4 sets batteries, that doest burn fuel. And, they are definately strict on safety. I've just had a three day suspension for running a red light. But, of course, that was my fault.
The bad part for me about this company is that we run alot of NE. You do get an EZpass for tolls, which helps alot. And another thing i dont care for is the slip-seating. If you live more than 50 miles from the terminal, you wont really have to worry about it, since you'll take your truck, unless you break down. I have to park my truck at the terminal where everyone has access to it. There have been a couple of occasions when I'd call in ti see if they have a load ready for me, to be informed another driver has my truck. Still, an okay company to work for. And, also, no forced dispatch. -
