Hey guys, quick question, sorry if this has been talked about couldn't really find an exact answer. If its written about somewhere else if you could drop a link and I can go through that instead of taking up your time!
I custom harvest with my semi so It only hauls grain. My cargo insurance is 25k which would cover any grain loads obviously.
I recently bough an XL lowboy to haul the grain cart and tractor. My question is what cargo insurance would I need to haul tractors and equipment. I'm thinking like from a farm yard to a dealer to get worked on stuff like that in my spare time. nothing over the road or anything crazy. I am wondering what amount of cargo insurance you guys run for heavy haul and if you would be wiling to share how much that is. I am trying to figure out if its worth adding that to make a couple trips here and there for some extra income.
I have a 1 million dollar commercial semi insurance, I also have a 3 million dollar general business liability policy for the harvesting business, do any of these count as cargo insurance? would they cover a load that is not owned by me? When I haul my combine I don't increase cargo because I have separate insurance on the combine itself.
Thanks in advance, I'm a rookie and its hard to find simple information sometimes and I trust you guys are here to give it to me straight.

Side note, would it be better to just try and rent out the lowboy when not in use? Anyone have any experience on renting one or what would be a good price? its an older trailer XL 60 but I redid the entire rear end, drums, shoes, slacks, s cams, oil, wheel seals, airbags, air chambers, air hoses, abs sensors, tires are in great shape so it is in complete road ready condition. would also try and rent to people I somewhat know or friends of friends. Thanks guys!

How much is the equipment you’re hauling worth? That’s what you need to insure it for.
Opendeckin, Diesel Dave and Dpeterson3530 Thank this. -

Most cargo is less than a million dollars which is usually more an amount for liability coverage.
I remember one boss sweating over a claim for a container of crab meat.
Cargo value was $280,000.00 and his cargo coverage was $300K.Dpeterson3530 Thanks this. -
What ever cargo limits you, that’s all they will pay out for a lose. Equipment is usually more valuable than 25k. I carry 100k in cargo and it’s really not much more costly than you might think.
Dpeterson3530 Thanks this. -
