My experience at Career tech was Awful. With the exception of a few good instructors... Day one everyone was unsure if we were even in the right place. Run down building shared with a scrap metal place on one side and all kinds of appliances setting outside for a refurbishing business on the other end. Class room: We had Ken as an instructor which didn't appear to be focused at all. Always on his cell phone and when he was present in the classroom half the day he was going out into left field with some different conspiracy theories and off the wall crap like " The Obamas Michelle was a Man and Obama was a woman" Aliens, the world coming to an end, etc... Most of our Classroom time was YouTube videos. I had already seen most from my house already. I pushed through and made it to the Dry lot to start practicing. It started with a Pretrip every morning then we were told to go out back and practice. It was more students teaching students. If you needed help you had to hunt an instructor down. That went on for the first two weeks by my third week they decided to put walkie Talkies in the trucks to communicate "turn left turn right ". The road instructor Jim is AMAZING he has the patience of a Saint... The practice lot was so full of students it was hard to get in and learn the maneuvers. My third week was upon me and I hadn't even got to the alley docking and parallel parking yet. I practiced as much as I could. I was given a test date for that following Tuesday. I told them I was not ready to test they said test anyway if you fail you'll know what to expect next time. Ken from the classroom said "as soon as you get a test date the sat before your test you can come and practice on the test parking lot." So I showed up to practice my alley docking and parallel parking. The lot was full of people and a private vehicle. I was unable to get to the truck to practice. I talked to everyone there and none of them had a test date they were all self pays and some it was their first day at the school. Which was unfair to the ones that followed the rules per Ken and had a test date. I waited for hours to practice then Ken comes out and says " I have a life and everyone here will do one straight back, one offset, one alley dock and one parallel then I'm shutting it down and going home." I was upset by this. Ken knew I was and tried to talk to me. The students that had test dates and I left. No practice on Sunday because they are closed. I returned on Monday to see if I could get some practice in after they were finished with testing. Ken approaches my truck I rolled the window down and in a very sarcastic tone asked if I was in a better mood... Well.... I bit my tongue and simply told him he pissed me off Saturday by not following through with promises made to myself and other students with test dates in hand. I told him it was over and done and I didn't want to get into it with him. He then tried to flip it on me and started getting argumentative when he seen I wasn't letting him push my buttons he tried another approach... I drove so the students without vehicles road with me which were males. Ken smirked and looked at the two classmates in my vehicle the turned to me and said " Aren't you married " as if to imply something inappropriate was going on. Mind you I have a Very strong marriage. I simply looked at him and said " You know what you SOB I am married and my husband knows all about student X and all about student Y and I'm even teaming with Student Y " when he seen that didn't get me to argue with him he shut up and left me alone. IMO this is a very "Good ole boy school ". Everything went downhill from there two failed test later I saw was not going to get a fair test. One tester is Good but the other which wasn't even my tester kept sticking his nose in my tests. The second test The other tester not mine was done for the day and It was pointed out to him She's testing and I'll be ###### if he didn't come flying back to the lot on his scooter to stick his nose in it... Which got me rattled... At this time I feel it is a very hostile environment to return to. This was just the condensed version of my story with career tech in Lakeland Florida. I can go into more detail if anyone is interested. Thanks for letting me vent...
