This is another pathway to get a decent paying local job with LaBatt Food Service. The pay starting out isn't too good, but after acquiring a CDL-A the pay jumps to $72G+
This one is different from the other post about this company.

Others will know more than me… The CDL school I went to about four years ago was like 50% ex felons. This is trucking, not like trying to become an FBI agent or running a bank. Lol I would venture to guess that a lot of truck drivers have marks on their records. The company I work for is well known for giving people second chances. And you know what? It’s kind of worked out well for them. Many of their drivers are very grateful to have a good paying job despite having past criminal records. Most as far as I can tell leave that life behind too because now they can support themselves and enjoy making a good paycheck.

From what you describe, honestly you might hit a few companies that will reject you but most probably won’t. It was something that happened 10 years ago.

It depends on the Felon's conviction. There are some that will bar them from obtaining a CDL. Pretty much anything involving a motor vehicle disqualifies an applicant.

Your head is in the right place but some of your information isn't current or correct. I'll get the hard part out of the way first. Here are the trucking companies that won't hire felons:

    Brown Trucking Company
    K&B Transportation
    Martin Transportation Systems
    Martin Transport
    Poly Trucking, Inc.

That's it! All the other companies don't care, want x years since your conviction or evaluate case by case.

I wouldn't spend your own money for CDL school. Why spend actual dollars that could buy your kid a pair of shoes when other options will get the job done for free without obligation?

    1. Free gub'mint money! Uncle Sam will pay for your CDL school through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. Get information on Texas WIOA programs here. They don't care about criminal history.

    2. YRC Driving Academy. How about CDL training that is not only free (no contract or obligation), but pays you $17/hr WHILE THEY TRAIN YOU? It takes about a month to get your CDL then you start at Teamster scale with 100% paid insurance for you and your family. Felonies are taken on a case-by-case basis.

    3. Saia Dock to Driver Program. This is the only LTL position I could find an ad for in Austin. Work the dock, they will pay you to train to get your CDL then you're a driver. Felonies are taken on a case-by-case basis.

I’m surprised LTL companies will take a felon with all the access to freight. Where I used to run LTL from time to time they’d catch a driver stealing, they caught warehouse workers as well. They’d call the cops on them. Once I was pulling in the yard and there were several police cars there and our security guard is shaking her head no as the cops look at me. Few minutes later the driver they were waiting for came in. The cops arrested him on the spot. I later learned they had him on camera stealing.
