Hello Everyone
I am new to the forums and wanted some advice on my recent transport issue.
I recently contacted Montway Transport (broker) who contracted with Coast to Coast Transport Inc to pick up a car from New York and deliver in Los Angeles.
The seller of the car drove it to the truck transport. The truck driver drove it onto the back of the truck. (Last position lower level.) The seller sent me pictures showing the car being driven to the truck, parked behind trunk and truck driver driving the car onto the truck
I get a call from the truck driver stating that he is now in Nebraska and cannot get my car to start.
The seller says the car battery was just replaced and is brand new. The seller thinks thje truck driver left the key in the car and killed the battery or he set off the car alarm and needs to reset it to start the car again.![]()

The truck driver tells me that the car is not what the seller claims. Says the battery is dead and cant be taken off the truck because the parking brake level is broken and he could crush his fingers trying to release the brake cable! The truck driver tells me that he will need to call a wrecking truck to help him pull the car off so he can drop off other cars from his truck. He wants to charge me an addition $200 on top of the $1300 I agreed to pay for this transport ($250 to broker and $1050 cash on delivery to truck driver )
1) Am I being squeezed by the truck driver? Is the truck driver doing something shady? I have pictures of the car parked behind the truck for loading and picture of the driver in my car driving it onto the truck.
What can I do now? What options do I have?
2) Do you think the seller is pulling a fast one? He says he is trying to help but technically once the truck driver got it onto the truck, he no longer has any responsibility.

Did he give a condition report to the seller? A good car hauler can get the car on and off with the problems you described a dead battery and parking brake release is not a big deal. You have to be careful of who hauls your car I suggest that you bypass the brokers next time and research the web and contact a company directly, I recently retired but had 20 plus years car hauling. Contact the seller and tell him that it's not a big deal about the battery and parking brake maybe he will tell you something different from the driver ,, good luck

I'm sure the driver does have other cars to get on and off and Nebraska would be about the halfway point of "short loading" that trip, and I'm sure if that car has some aftermarket alarm or wiring it could be an issue and time is money, so every time he has to move that car is going to be a PITA, I hate to be judgmental, but just by looking at the pic, model, make and year of that car I can tell it's probably not a cream puff, jmho

Do you think I should be paying the additional $200 dollars so the truck driver can have a wrecking truck come help him take the car off the transport and reloading it back on?
If the vehicle was running fine when brought to the transport truck and the truck driver drove it onto the transport truck, then what is the likelihood it would all of a sudden not work and he needs to up charged me $200 dollars? It sounds strange to me. He even made a big deal about the emergency brake was stuck and it could break off his fingers if he tried to release it. Overly dramatic logic in my opinion.
I agree time is money as in any business but to pass on a charge to me when the car was running fine when it was loaded to the trunk is what has been upsetting. I read the forums before I chose this company (broker) who then assigned me to this truck transport company. The forums warned me of sudden upsell charges and that is exactly what happened to me. I didn't go with the lowest transport bid so that I could get good service and no hassle. It still didn't happen that way.
I dont know what to believe at this point.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Sorry if I dissed your car, but facts are that "most" luxury cars have more electrical issues than other cars, esp. when they get a couple of years old, AND bouncing around on a truck, esp. on NY roads could have easily set something off and killed the battery, it happens.
On one hand you are upset because this driver wants more money than what was quoted to you to move your car, fair enough,,,,, On the other hand he is upset because he is now dealing with what was suppose to be a running, driving car, now he has more time and work involved, maybe you two could split the cost of the wrecker?
#### happens, esp. on older vehicles, here's a great example, my GF bought a Ford Explorer and it ran fine but had a couple of codes, she drives it to the Ford dealer and drops it off, next day they call and ask how she got the car there because it wouldn't start?
Bottom line is when the tech went out to start the car it threw a timing chain, it happens the cost to replace the chains in that motor 3500.00 do you think the dealership was going to fix it for nothing?
BTW, moving that car coast to coast for 1050 to the truck is a ridiculously low amount, even 1800.00 would have been a deal, a good enclosed carrier and you would have been looking at 3 large. Just saying.Last edited: Oct 9, 2017
Hulld, tech10171968, crb and 1 other person Thank this. -
the driver should have some kind of mechanical experience and have a fully charge jumper box. I think he is trying to get over on you.
