Hey guys,
I have a small fleet of Canadian plated trucks in Canada. Would I be able to have these trucks run interstate in the USA with US CDL drivers?
I am now a resident of the USA, wondering if there is a way to make it work without having to transfer the trucks to my American company.

Maybe buy American trucks and plate them as such. Your company probably will have to be separate in some way from the Canadian One.
I don't know of too many who do this. Easier to just run into one country unload and out empty or straight across to Mexico and hand it off there. Probably take one straight back to Canada.
When you get into a American Yard and start moving that between trailers or deliver to American customers You might need to understand what US Customs might require of you.
Anything else would not be very good, It's something I don't know much about. -
Canadian carriers hauling domestic freight is called cabotage and it carries some stiff penalties. Unless you have US DOT authority, you can only haul into and out of the US.
Old Troll Bridge Thanks this. -
You will need your US IRP (Apportioned Plates).
Apart from leasing these equipment to yourself or your company in US, if they are free of liens you can transfer and title equipment in your current resident state.
You will not have to pay duty for two reasons, one these equipment are manufactured in US, two when you became resident of US you were entitled to bring your assets and belongings duty free.Last edited: Mar 17, 2021

I'm Canadian and set up a US LLC to operate my trucks down here.
For how easy it is, just setup a company, get your DOT and Authority and run em.
