I only own a car and would like to buy something at a store that comes in a large box. I was wondering what the chances of me being harassed by DOT for me to bobtail to the store, rachet tie down the box to my catwalk to bring it home?

How far are you from home?
And how many DOT patrol that area?

Does the store deliver? It might be safer.

Yeah luckily I can take a highway that doesn't have any weigh stations and is pretty empty. It is 30 minutes away from my house. It is not so much I am trying to avoid DOT, I am just not sure if they will pull me over for doing it. They said their delivery is backed up plus any time you deliver from a store they always schedule it about five days later so I would have to wait a month for my next home time to time it perfectly to be home when they deliver (I live alone).

They make cars in large boxes now?!

    Sorry man couldn't resist!

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it is secure and not floppin around in the wind or has the potential to fall off. Might be better if you could find a way to bolt it down or something a little more secure. There are many custom boxes you can buy that are actually made to fit your own truck. Just make sure to check with your company before buying one. Also if your company typically hauls heavy loads you will need to make sure that this box won't be a weight issue causing you to have to refuse a load.

There are really no regulations on redneck hauling as long as you meet securement of 393.100+.

Strap it to prevent side to side and forward movement. Like reefer said they would probably laugh. I would be more concerned about your company and unauthorized use.

You can get a Uhaul for $20. No friends with a pickup?

I have done it before, as long as its secure you should not have a issue, unless you own the truck though i would be more concerned about unauthorized use of the truck.

Problem is... He couldn't do it... What you can't see are the 800 lbs of concrete in the back seat, and the rear struts through the strut tower... I'm thinking a small box on a bobtailing truck should be ok weight wise though!
