Lots of O/O's replace drives with lots of mi's left on them and use them on the trailer to finish them out
kwt600, Ikamob01, lester and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yup my steers come off the truck at 1 year regardless of how much tread is left (usually around 25%) and go onto whichever of my drives needs it most or before i got a trailer with 24.5s they went to whichever axle had the worst tires and those in turn went in the spare rack or if they were worse then any of my current tires they went in the rack.
The only big diffrence between a steer and drive really is steers are more designed to help a truck ride smoother and distribute weight better on that axle. Maybe to help guide the truck depending on who you ask. Drives are more designed for traction and trailer tires are more designed for weight and to help guide the trailer in a specific direction. Granted any of the above may wear a bit faster in the wrong position but if its a run out....who cares?
And even that is only if you use tires for specific positins for the slight boost in performance and dont just use all position tires which work equally well all the way around the rig. -
It'll have more rolling resistance but you can
