if you are planning on working the load boards and spot market .... good luck .... its not worth it to get your own authority unless you get shippers on your own which is hard with 1 truck..... my net profit is higher leased on to landstar than it was running under my own authority ... as far as getting aproved carrier with landstar its a different load board and the rates are not on there and you get 100% of whatever ever the agent can get you to haul it for . its not hard to get approved carrier status but not sure if you can get it with brand new authority. .... sometimes it pays more and sometimes less than a bco s cut ..... around half of my loads are directly from the agents and another 30% are landstar direct shippers and the final 20 % are Brooker loads and that % is going down as i work regular for agents ........ moral of that story is a lot of the better loads never make it to a load board especially when rates are cheap as this winter and spring. ...... you can get a trial on the load board through a recruiter at landstar i think its for a day or something, the full rates are listed without landstars cut taken out

Hey OP, here is a thought, become a LS BCO and you get access to the better stuff.

    No those are never posted.

Those are offered to BCOs only from what I am told.

I've read on this forum that Landstar is bad. Really bad. I'd think very carefully about getting involved there.

Uh huh. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you, Dave. Minus the cats of course.

All good info. @Blu_Ogre, thank you for the links.

I've yet to see anyone post a current screenshot from LS owner operator loadboard.

Just pick anywhere, how about Dallas, TX to Detroit, MI with a search 300 mile search radius on both ends. Dry van profile, Monday through Friday of next week.

Give us the first 6 highest paying loads, or is it so proprietary we need to know that special handshake, wink of the eye, while wearing one's top secret underwear given only to the initiated? ;-)

Im on a landstar load right now that i booked from DAT. Its got a TMC prefix to the confirmation number and also some other hand written TMC number on it. [And honestly im having a touch of trouble with the consignee not knowing what any of it means]

Whats the relationship between TMC and landstar?

$1.69 a mile operating costs, yep that's about right.

However, add on replacement costs and a decent rate of return on top of the real costs and it's apparent that most so-called owner operators would be better off working as an employee.

Could be an agency code? Landstar uses a 3 character code for the agent groups......
