Can I get access to Landstar’s loadboard?

If I was contemplating my own authority, I could pay and get on DAT or 123 or whatever and start studying lanes and freight options, but I will most likely go with Landstar. I was just wondering if it’s possible to join their boards for a fee to study these things before I dive in.

I know they have a public board, but with limited info, hard to get an idea of this stuff.

    Thanks

you could possibly ask a recruiter. i was thinking about leasing onto a similar flat bed company at one time and i asked if i could see there load board and they sent me a log in, i couldn't book a load obviously but i could see what was posted on the board.

Landstar board isn't all that. I have access to their board as an asset based carrier. Like most other boards, the agents very seldom post rates.

So, I'm not sure what you would gain without calling the listing agent and negotiating a rate.

That seems like their public board. But if that’s the case, yeah, wouldn’t help much. I was under the impression that their board for leased on O/O’s was more informative and had the prices so you could figure out then and there if the load was worth calling and haggling over.

My sense is that unless you get your foot in the door with an agent or two and build a relationship with them, at 72% of the gross, it's really not all that great, especially with a van.

I called on one yesterday that was posted for 2 days on DAT. As soon as the guy answered ( from San Antonio) I knew it would be the run around.

Sure enough, guy says, "let me call the other company and see if it's still available."

    I just hung up...

This is how it looks to a Landstar driver, with the column for ‘revenue’ and ‘rate/mile’.

In the public board, it looks similar but those columns are omitted.

Clicking on a load gives even more pertinent info. (These are just screen grabs from the ole interwebs)

Is there a separate board for specialized freight like explosives?

Fairly irrelevant. It’s probably a 5 year old screen grab to be fair. Just an example. I just want to study the lanes that might matter to me.
