We are brand new starting out with the LLC and looking for an accountant. We have an appointment with someone locally but wanted to price out good accountants online. Anyone have any suggestions?

Personally, I wouldn't let ATBS balance my check book. ATBS is one of the biggest ripoffs in the business. Don't believe me? Fine. Ask what their rates are. Last I heard it was about $80 a month, or $960 a year. That is about twice as much as a competent accountant will charge you.
    ATBS is GARBAGE!

I believe that having a good CPA near you that you can deal with face to face once in a while is the best move. A good "trucking" accountant doesn't necessarily need to be one who deals primarily with trucking operations. A CPA whose major focus is small businesses, especially agriculture, construction, etc type of businesses, can be a great accountant for a trucking operation. There are substantial similarities between those operations and trucking, and many of those operate trucks as well. There really is no major difference between a trucking operation and a construction or similar operation. Equipment needs depreciating and operating costs and tax regulations are very similar.

I have the best of both worlds in a CPA near me. She handles many agriculture and construction entities, and her husband also owns a trucking operation. This gal is good, and she spends a lot of the year in keeping abreast of tax legislation and other issues. She isn't doing this from a home office sort of thing, she has her own accounting firm with staff. It was on her advice to form an LLC with the state, and file with the IRS as a S Corp for tax purposes that has benefited me thousands in tax savings. And she is a major stickler for details. Everything totally on the up and up. No playing fast and loose with "loopholes" and other nonsense that can get one in trouble. My operation has never been so transparent to the government as it has been with her. I rest a lot easier since I moved things over to her from my previous accountant several years ago. Wish I had done it sooner.
