This would be the Grocery hauling end of the business. So far I have found out that the pay is good, but the hours are a little off the wall. The drivers are paid based upon each load.

    Example:

Driver goes out Sunday at 6pm with another driver they both take turns in the bunk and they have to due around 20-30 stops in around 18-22 hrs in their area of delivery. They would get back on Monday afternoon and go home, then go back to work on Tuesday sometime and be back home on Wednesday and so on for the rest of the wk. They might do this 3 or 4 times each week, but have to stop, because of the 60 hour rule.

The pay is 600 to 800 per every time you go out and you would be going out 3 or 4 times in a wk.

Is this worth the opportunity with them?

Yea. McLane does all of the 7-11's Circle K's, and stuff. Allot of city driving. Better know how to get that truck into very tight situations. I wouldn't want it.

The McLanes guy's we had come to the store I was Grocery Receiver at, were happy with their job. ( I worked for Wal-mart for 9 & 1/2 yr's) I had asked them once because my husband was driving cement trucks and wanted to do something different. So I asked alot of the drivers what they thought of their company. Had time to talk to them as they unloaded and in other companies cases checked in the merchandise.

And as someone else put... be physically fit, cause not every store has a dock you can use.

Well, I was there once, now some truths. You dont take turns in the bunk, you make it look like you do on the Xata Log but thats far from the truth. You will both work all the hours you are gone. If you think your gonna sleep while the other guy unloads and vice versa, you'll never get done with your stops and everything is timed so forget that. You will never make like 800 to 900 per run, maybe 900 per week if your lucky. If I remember right, its like .32 a mile, some much per stop, somethig like .05 cents per 1000 lbs, and something per case I think. You'll never figure out your pay but its like $900 per week. They have uniforms, if you're there long enough. You will be paired up wih whoever is available, some just hope that they can drive, because Mclane doesn't care if they can. They just have to know how to lump freight. I know 2 guys were killed not to long ago that worked in Jessup. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, I'm just trying to give you the real story from someone who worked there. Go get an hourly job in the gas industry or a water truck up there in Tukhannock.

i dont suggest you go there im not bad mouthing but i just left that company because they will over exuast you it is extreamly demanding. If you have a stable job stick with it until you dont have to ask anyone about your prospective employer. You will not find any bad press on mclane because they pay to have it blocked off the internet. keep all this in mind when makeing your decision. PS you will earn every penny

i work for grocery, u will earn every cent. u will unload the whole 53ft 40,000 pounds of grocery with a hand cart down a ramp. we run teams, trip last around 20hrs with 20 to 23 stops. just got off a 26hr trip. how we do it is senior driver starts driving and 2nd driver will be in "sleeper" for 7 to 8hrs, and vice versal. Like bfl123 said it will show on your logs you in the sleeper but in reality u will be unloading with other driver. pay is great untill you do the math and see how much you are getting paid by the hour. like this 26hr run i just did i got pay $275, now divide it by 26hrs it equals $10.57hr. so is it worth it been up w no sleep for 26hrs unloading a 53ft trailer and all that city driving and trying 2 get a 53ft with sleeper inside a 7eleven parking lot? and theres no " ahh lets take a 1hr break we tired" nooo, i eat my sandwich in between stops, if u take a 30minute break you going to be late for your next delivery, hope that helps. the positive side is its a local job, u wont need a gym membership lol, great benefits,
