Hello everyone! I'm Willy from Slovenia, Europe and am kind a new to this forum.
O.k. my story goes like this...I'm 28 and for the last 5 years i've been a trucker, a long haul trucker across entire continent of Europe.
I have been driving mostly refrigerated trucks and some of a container trucks.
I'm citizen of European Union country, I have my criminal backgroud clear and never had any penalty points in my drivers licence.
I speak english and spanish and of course my native languages serbian and slovenian...
I have a class B, C and E drivers licence(don't know how do you mark your classes in North America) and also a D class which is a bus in Europe...
So basically I have all drivers licence classes which exist in Europe...
I also have licence for a forklift operator...
I've read about European truckers have to go to trucking school again in USA and Canada, because you guys don't recognise European drivers licences...
But ok, that would not be a problem for me... I know that you have a lot of European truckers now trucking for an American or Canadian companies and even some of them are now owner operators....
I have a big desire to come to North America, find myself a company and start my life again from the beginning...
When I was in America and Canada for the first time as a child I felt in love with those two countries, so I go at least once in a year there as a tourist for the last 6-7 years or so...

Now my question for you guys living and trucking in North America...
HOW TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL OF MINE???
I have been sending a lot of times my CV to the companies in Canada and USA as well, but I never got any answer from them!!
Maybe they just don't like European workers coming to their land and stealing jobs away from Americans and Canadians???
I don't know...but on the other hand I hear all the time that there are not many Americans and Canadians available for those jobs in a trucking industry, so these companies are hiring truckers from Mexico and even South Africa??!!!
So where is the point, if you need a worker from overseas and he is villing to relocate and to accept that job
how come you don't accept him??? Just because he is from Europe???
I'm a little bit confused about all that I must say...
So how to get a trucking job in Canada or United States if you are from Europe????
I don't mind which state or city the company is based in, cause I'm villing to relocate permanently away from this
    ruined Europe...
Any advices for me??? Maybe you know a company that is villing to hire European truckers???
If you know anything I will be thankfull so much!!!

Cheers from snowy and frozen Europe :)

Hey willy, I'm from Ireland and I'm working in Canada, I like it here and the people here are unbelievably nice and really helpful, as regards your license; your European e license (a1 here) is valid for 3 months, that British expats forum that RickG has mentioned above is very helpful, you can also pm me if you have any questions on visas etc

There are truckers in USA from all over the world; I just don't know how they did it. Anyway, come on over if you can figure it out, you're very welcome here.

I don't see why not. Your English is very good compared so some people we have in this country. Just look up what it takes to become a citizen in this country.

Before the economy took a dive a few years ago Schneider recruited worldwide . Now there are so many desperate people flocking to CDL mills willing to work for any wage the red tape involved in hiring immigrants isn't worth the trouble .

    Hello Willy,
I am originally from Germany and have been in the US since 1994. I had my German licenses and hazmat and they were pretty much worthless here. I had to go start all over. I would check with your local US consulat and see what options you have for immigrating to the US, If you have family here that would help. I am not sure if they still have options for people from the former Jugoslavia to come to this country. During the war a lot of people immigrated to the US.

I used to go there for summer vacations with my parents as a kid and spent a lot of time up and down the coast in Croatia. Lots of great memories.

I would bring your info with you the next time you are here on vacation and see if you could talk to people in person. Also make sure all your certificates are translated as well. I remember going around Memphis looking for a job as a heavy equipment mechanic when I first came here and they looked at my German stuff and had no clue what any of it meant. They wanted ASE certifications and it was tough to start from scratch again and getting paid low wages until they figured out that my four year apprentice ship in Germany was a lot more involved than what they taught there mechanics here. I got a break when I found a crane company with lots of Demag and Krupp cranes since I could actully read the manuals and all of a sudden I was in high demand.

    Good luck to you.

    Hello sir,
sorry to disturb you, but i just read your comment on "Can a european trucker get a trucking job in canada or united states???" thread and you seemed very nice and willing to help.
Here is my problem, i am also an european, but i am not a trucker, only classes B, C and D (thats cars, non articulted trucks and Buses), i got them from the military.
My family and I have been reading and thinking and we'de pretty mutch like to try living in Canada. I have family in Toronto although we were thinking more along Alberta (fort Mcmurray perhaps), and try going all 3 of us if possible.
My question is pretty mutch this: What can i do to become a Heavy Haul Operator/driver ( or Long Haul Driver for that matter)
From what i know the driver licences from europe are not validated in Canada. Or am i wrong? My relative said that since it was from the army there is the possibilitty that it would be acknowledged.

Can you help me? We would be mutch oblidged.
If so, please email me at Dvrcjacinto@gmail.com

    Best Regards

PS. i tried leaving a PM but i dont have the privileges yet since im new here.
