I call upon the knowledge of all experienced drivers in this website for me to take a curse of action(if needed) for this. on Thursday I was stopped for a level 2 inspection on i87. after quickly grabbing my logs and paperwork the dot officer proceeded to edit my logs (see below) without my authorization, edited my logs including my cargo, where did I began my day and where I was supposed to end I find this illegal since if I was in a accident or something this might had come back and bite me in the rear. can this be challenged..... I apologize for the picture being upside... I though logs could be only edited by the driver and not an official document until signed.

Yes they absolutely can audit not edit, they can also take the top copy with them as evidence, they just sign your logbook so you can start a new page and its not considered a second out dual log.
In this case Id tell them thank you not piss in there wheaties.Last edited: Jan 25, 2014

so he made all the entries for the day?
your page was blank?
I don't see the change.
your top line is for sleeper or off duty? I assume it's sleeper. -
since when did the gooberment grant leo's the power to edit a drivers log??????
guess i'd just roll with it. but keep your own copy. if it ever had to go to court. i'd think the leo could lose his job. i could see a big lawsuit going against him.
i heard from a driver that was told to lie in one state. and got cited. but when he got inspected in the next state, he got fined again for following the first inspect state advice.hardworkinman Thanks this. -
What did he edit? Edit means to change something. So he wrote down what cargo you had, where you began and where you ended up? That would mean you didn't have it filled out before he stopped you because I only see one entry in each of those spots.

Just wondering, if you don't mind me asking, how do you figure being a soldier and a truck driver 2 of the most opposite jobs in America?
-
I think hos editing, was the neat clean straight line portion showing the start and stop time of a dot inspection.
Filled in your commodity and drew a line and wrote in your start city and state.
All things you were suppose to have already done or done.
Did he cite you for not having your log entries filled in and correct. If not he was doing you a favor, if so, well probably ought to keep your logs up, or get elogs.
A ruler goes a long way in making neat logs. Neat logs go a long way in helping to pass inspections.TwinStickPeterbilt Thanks this. -
lets see the dot actually filled out your logs for you instead of citing you for not doing it yourself? lmao, most dot here in Texas,as well as in Louisiana, and Arkansas, would write you up for that. count your blessings.

Wow dude did you try to do that log on the fly. Without no straight edge. He just filled in the parts you couldn't fill in before he got to the door. Did you get a ticket. If not stop crying. He probably felt sorry for you and tried to help you out. When you get inspected thats always onduty not driving. So he just did what you were going to do anyway. Chill dude.
