Hello fellow drivers. I was wondering if anybody has worked for Vons or Ralphs as a driver. I'm located in Long beach Ca. I hear its a good job($).
* Are they union?
* Hows the pay?
* What type of trucks do they run?
* I assume its all local work.

I would imagine they're unionbythe way they slow poke down the highway. They do avg of 50mph every time I encountered one in the San Joaquin Valley.
-
From what I hear is starting pay is around $25.00 to 29.00 hour. I know some people are not big fans of Unions, so with union dues proably comes to around $20.00 hour.

I have been driving for vons for 20 years.. And the lies and
misconceptions about union drivers seem to get further from
the truth as time goes on.. For the record, our union dues are
$65 PER MONTH!!! Not a huge amount compared to what was
mentioned in earlier post.. We make $25.50 per hour & overtime
after 8 hour.. I usually work 3 hrs ot per day. That = $1600 per
week gross.. The company pays 100% of med insurance with no
out of pocket cost to me.. We have a pension plan with the union,
and a 401k plan. We drive slow because we are not in a hurry..
Sorry to say that some of our guys do drive a little slow, but you
will never see any of us blasting down the hwy at 70-75 mph..
We do not have pressure put on us by some greasy dispatcher to
get a load delivered.. So if we drive to slow for some of you don't
take offense, just go to the left lane around us. We have 425 drivers.
100 of us have 20+ years all the way up to 45 years. Guys don't
stick around that long if this is a bad place to work. I hear a lot of
drivers on the radio say that they quit their job to make 1cent more a
mile somewhere else. Or they say "I don't make a lot per mile, but I
get a lot of miles".. The drivers that take these bad jobs are the ones
that complain about how slow we drive. If you think about it, I would
complain too if I drove 3500 miles in one week for $900,been gone from home
for 8 weeks, or have not showered in a week because of pressure put
on you by the dispatcher that sleeps in his own bed every night.. So..
Driving 55 ain't so bad after all..Kitkat13, Gearjammin' Penguin, truckthatpassesyouby and 6 others Thank this. -

And you guys deserve every penny if that 25.50 an hour to drive in that crappy socal traffic. hopefully I'll never see the 91 frwy again. .
archangelic peon and Big Don Thank this. -
Union dues aren't that much. Think I was paying like 75.00 a month or lower with a big Union carrier. C'mon with that!
