I've heard there is a law in the California house that says if your diesel truck identifies as emissions free, you can still operate there in 2036.

I was going to say CA is going starve themselves out of existence but some mega fleet will probably capitalize on the opportunity and get a fleet of them tesla semi trucks just to get all the business and freight out there.

The way they're setting this up is they're going to use shippers and receivers to enforce the rule. If your truck VIN entered into their computer isn't compliant the shipper/receiver will reject you because if they don't they'll have to pay a fine. They're going to be documenting that on the loads. A cost that gets saddled onto private enterprise.

Also they are changing the regs to where if CARB is set up at a weigh station and tells CHP that they want to do a further emission compliant inspection on a truck CHP will direct you over to the CARB officers. No more of that just laughing and waving at them as you roll by ignoring them because they don't have any enforcement power.

This is going to have real teeth. The state and private industry will work hand in hand in a way that would make Nazi's proud to ensure all trucks comply.

    Beginning 2023

"Portable Emissions Acquisition System (PEAQS) – a roadside monitoring system that measures truck emissions – will be deployed in various areas to screen for potential high-emitting vehicles operating on California roads. The detection/monitoring system was unveiled at the enforcement event at the Port of Los Angeles." (1200 trucks inspected)

"Vehicles flagged by the monitoring devices will be required to undergo an additional emissions test to verify their emissions-control equipment is functioning properly and repair any malfunctioning emission control equipment, if necessary.

In mid-2023, phase two of the HD I/M program requires all heavy-duty trucks to register with CARB and obtain a certificate of compliance to operate in the state.

In 2024, in the last phase of the program, heavy-duty truck registration in California will require proof of emissions compliance with the HD I/M Program. Emissions inspections will need to be performed twice a year for vehicles with onboard diagnostic (OBD) systems, increasing to four times per year testing in 2027."
