Okay I will try and answer these for you but be warned its different for each driver.

    1. I only drink coffee I used to take caffeine pills but because of all the caffeine I now have an irregular heart beat. The daily grind is drivers are putting in a lot of hours and having to deal with idiots on a daily basis and its tiring.

    2. I don't really use sleep aids so I cannot answer this

    3. Some trucks have small generators on them that run instead that power everything. A lot of drivers in my experience just leave their trucks idling.

    4. Not sure about this but what works best for me out of all is regular black coffee and towards the evening have every other drink be mostly water.

    Lonestar956 Thanks this.

Thank you for your honesty and for a good answer. Wow I guess running high on caffeine can cause irregualr heart beats.
The generator that runs everything sounds better than wasting gas.
Does the A/C get nice and cold?

I didn't think it was possible to waste gas with a big truck.... You know, since big trucks don't use gas!

To be honest you use just as much fuel using a generator as you do if you idle its just more quiet. As far as the A/C during the summer months i keep my rig around 65 degrees and it is not all that hard to get it colder.

    This is not true!

To idle a truck it takes about 1 gallon of fuel per hour, depending on the rpm you idle at.

With a apu, you will burn 1-2 gallons of fuel per night.

Guess I'm not considered important enough to have the generator the boss keeps telling me its on the " To do" list. I'm just glad I got my new clutch.

Here we go! I'll try to be as honest and helpful as possible.

    1. From the usage of coffee, energy drinks, caffeine pills, combined with a sleep aids will run a truckers mind and body down. Can someone explain this daily grind.

After a while of driving you become immune to this stuff and it stops working, nowadays I drink coffee to sleep better at night.

    2. Which sleep aids work?

If you're doing the job right, you won't need these.

    3. When you sleep in the truck does it stay on for the a/c to work well or..

I'm not OTR anymore, but I ran the truck if it meant sleeping well

    4. What works best for you?

AC/DC a pack of red's and the windows down.

    1. I will occasionally resort to a coffee drink or soda, but I don't do energy drinks or caffeine pills. Really, I can get more mileage off of water when I remember to do so. I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, too, so I have to be careful about when I drink it.
    2. If the truck is moving (I team), then I can usually sleep. The one time I got into a bad bout of insomnia, I tried something called "Chillaxation". Half a bottle relaxed me enough to sleep without leaving me tired later. Chamomille tea also works.
    3. If we're not running, the APU will only power the A/C well enough to keep the truck at its current level of coolness; we still have to idle if the temperature gets over 85F during the day. Anything cooler than that and we just put screens into the windows if we're stopped.
    4. Honestly, if we're actually running hard, then I'm usually so tired that I can barely stay awake once my 12 hours are up. We run flatbed, so that usually provides some physical exercise, too. When we don't have to load or unload, I try to get in at least a short walk. If my body and mind are both tired... I sleep.

    Hope that helps. :biggrin_25526:
