My husband recently received his CDL in September. He has had the most difficult time finding work in California. He started with a small company, that ended up only taking him out for 3 weeks with a trainer because it started getting slow and they didn't have a trainer to go out with him. He ended up not being on the schedule for 3 weeks. So he began looking for another job. Here's what we have come across:
1) Swift will not hire him because the CDL training school he went to is not accredited and is on their "no hire list" (little did we know about it when we paid for it!).
2) CR England, he went on a 2 day bus ride from hell trip only to find out that he couldn't pass the physical because he couldn't get up in the trailer without help....mind you, he is overweight but passed all of his other physicals and DOT Physical. He has very short legs, which also hindered him from getting up there. Since he was unable to get up, they are now sending him home.
3) Schneider didn't have any positions in our area
4) CRST: He has been on a waitlist for several months and it keeps being pushed back due to the lack of trainers
5) Schneider isn't hiring trainees out of California right now
He has applied for soo many jobs, I can't even remember! We just feel al little lost right now on what to do to move forward, since it seems like everyone requires experience but it seems almost impossible to get experience out of California, as many companies do not hire out of California! Please help with anything you guys have come across!

Don't take all the above personally.
As you have already experienced -- the CDL job market is REALLY TOUGH for beginners right now.

Other fleets will (also) require him to be able to climb up into the trailer.
Thus -- he might want to do some exercises/watch some relevant YouTube videos to prep for that.
