2003 Kenworth w900 with a c15 mbn. 800k miles. Stock 475 hp with a 550 rerate with stock cat turbo. Was hoping to do p*d*i but it’s not in the budget right now. But I plan on doing it in the near future.
I’m having the head checked this week because I am losing pressure somewhere. Worse comes to worse I will be doing an inframe. I would appreciate any kind of info I can get.
What kind of inframe to do? Make sure what gets checked & changed?
Everything is pretty much original. Previous owner didn’t change anything.
Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

From what I have seen on this website, the most important thing is to get a Caterpillar shop with a good reputation.
jsnell and Bigrigmayo93 Thank this. -
If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, there are good cat mechanics that are reasonable. Also there are some good after markets kits a ton cheaper than cat OEM. Talk to some guys that do Tractor pulls. They can steer you to the best that stay together. If your in east tx. I can give you a #... Good luck

Also you can find a head online for 3k or less. I replaced mine last year. No core charge too. It's my understanding that cat doesn't make the heads anymore. They will sure sell you 1 though..

IPD is an aftermarket kit
Look into replacing your head if it's even close to 1mil in mileage.
Items to look into while doing inframe
Water pump replace
Thermostats both replace
Check air to air (clean out, pressure test)
Radiator clean it or replace it
Clutch fan check it or rebuild kit
Fuel lines to motor replace
Fuel lines from tanks replace
Change radiator upper and lower hoses
Heater hoses to bunk and cab
*******Important********
Replace hoses behind turbos while they are off.
Check liners if you need them couterbored do it before Inframe as well as getting correct shims for liners.
I know I'm forgetting something stuff I just did this on a MXS motor.
So any questions ask away.Tug Toy and Bigrigmayo93 Thank this. -
Oil cooler....replace it now along with the oil pump if you don't have proof they've been changed recently.
Bigrigmayo93 and peterbilt_2005 Thank this. -

I’m sending my head in today to get tested. Depending on the condition it’s in, I wasn’t sure if I should rebuild or buy new. But I know it comes with the overhaul kit from kenworth. -
The most expensive kit they had was 13k it came with the same as the other kit & a new head & new water pump.
Thanks for the advice! -
