    Hi all,

New to the forum and somewhat new to the trucking world.

mechanical skill is 7 out of 10

    Ok, some history
1.5 yr old c15 in a T660 glider. 86k miles. I dont know everything that was done to it before we got it but I was made to believe port and polished head, custom tune, and blocked waste gate. Run on the dyno was over 700 whp but I forget exactly what.

    The problem
Less than 4k miles on the fuel filter and the vacuum gauge is right up near 20. This is pretty regular. We never had it die from a plugged filter. The one filter that was cut open at replacement was fine and the mechanic said good to go for a while. I think the filters last a little longer when its a warmer outside.

    The question
Is this normal? If not, where should i start looking?
I want to shine in the tank and look for algae? Or smell?

    Thanks in advance!

First of all put a fuel pressure gauge on it see if it’s the regulator on the backend of your return line 2nd of all plugged wastegate with that horsepower I can’t believe you haven’t snapped the shaft yet, but it probably won’t be long ! Does a buck a little bit when you’re pulling hard ? If it’s a glider exactly what motor does it have 3406E 2WS 6NZ ?

I'll have to check what filter. As I'm only part time here but I just live right across the road. So I'll try to check it.
And where should I be putting a gauge? Right after the primary filter? No, I dont feel any bucking. You mean the turbo shaft will break? I'm not sure what turbo is on but i dont it boosts over 40psi and doesn't often get quite up to 40.
I'll try to check what motor it is exactly too

Those boost levels are fine with 40psi and plugged off wastegate. Hp has nothing to do with it. Many many many people run this way. This forum loves to frown on wastegate plugged off when there is not one person with a documented case of failure leading to plugged off wastegate.

    Thank Cam Roberts!
I value the advice from forums, but at the same time I trust the shop that tuned it even more...

Either wrong filter or have a restriction in one of the fuel lines. ie, debri in line, line sucking shut. Pinching off waste gate does shorten life of turbo.....unless you drive it correctly. Hot rodding wont.

Oxbow, SAR and Cam Roberts Thank this.

If you have a davco make sure it’s a 50 micron. Some cats don’t have performance issues with the tighter micron but most I seen with upgrades do not like anything other than the 50 micron after 4-5k especially in south.

Even tho you cut a filter......Look in the fuel tanks at night with a flashlight...... then you can rule out algae or crap in the tank.....

    Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this.
