After 887k miles, my clutch fan is starting to go bad (leaking down and killing my mpg) so I'm going to pull it and rebuild. Just wondering on a ball park estimate on how much the rebuild kit goes for??? Thanks

I had this done in Pocatello Id recently. The kit cost $300. Cost out the door for the job was $600 , this was done on memorial day weekend Saturday night at 10pm. The cost included the call out fee for the mechanic to come meet me at his shop. Was only about an hours work to do it between the two of us. We spent longer standing around BS'ing than we did working. It's not a complicated job. Just drop the fan off the hub and sit it in the rad shroud. Remove the belts and air line, take the hub off the front of the engine. The hardest thing is getting the hub out from the front of the engine. It's an awkward and heavy little bugger! Then take it apart and put in the new bearing and friction material.

Kitmasters makes some good rebuild kits ! They also have a two year warranty i rebuilt mine w horton parts and 11 months later it went bad again and wouldnt give me any warranty on the parts that wer to have a year on them because i used a competors part to get back on the road so no more horton parts for me !!!!!
SHC and cetanediesel Thank this. -
Kit Masters is the way to go, much more reliable than Horton. Between 300 and 400 for the kit depending on which kit you need.

Don't know about rebuild kits..... But a new one installed by my kw dealer was 1k . Ouch !

Think about a complete replacement. There really isn't much warranty on a rebuilt unit.

The clutch is good, it's just got an internal air leak, so it looses pressure and locks in. Going to look at the feed line and hopefully it's just got a crack in it or bad fitting. Would be nice lol

That would be nice. This is one of those things. If the leak is internal you can repair that with a minor kit, but here is the thing... It has to come out, so since it is out you might as well put new bearings in it, since you put new bearings in it, you might as well put a new clutch and plate in it, if you are going to do all that, you might as well just replace it and be done with it... As long as you are happy and it works in the end!

It might help if you say fan clutch instead of clutch fan. Someone might think you have a fan to cool your clutch.

I wouldn't go for the added expense of a new hub. The mounting bracket and pulley are the only parts reused in a rebuild, as long as they are OK, a proper reman is just as good as new. Actually our Kit Master rebuilds last longer than original equipment Hortons anyway, much better clutch design in them.
