I had my c15 acert rebuilt by caterpillar. It was a 550 hp and they rebuilt it as a factory 625 hp. That was around 850,000 miles ago! Now it is time to rebuild it again. I know that it has 17:1 compression now instead of 18:1. The turbos are a little bigger also from what I understand. I want to go to 16:1 compression. My question is ... are the pistons in a 625 bigger? Is the stroke different? Or is the difference between the two just in compression and tuning? I want to put the IPD piston kit in it and the IPD fire ringed head on it also. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!!

To get the 16:1 pistons, you need the Cat industrial cylinder pack num er OR7172. If you're wanting just the Cat 16:1 piston number itself, it is 3466616. You will also need to change the piston cooling jet for the 16:1 to Cat number 2791152. Good luck

Sounds like last rebuild was good if a high horsepower lasted that long .

Unless you plan to delete the VVA'S And get it returned I wouldn't change the compression ratio... You will loose a good bit of power and economy if you just drop the compression ratio without deleting the VVA'S. The effect they have on the dynamic compression ratio is equivalent to 2 points of compression and that's the reason the accerts have a higher compression ratio to start with. If you drop it to 16:1 and leave the VVA's intact your going to hate it .. now if you would like to retune and it for sure was updated to a 625 the right way which requires a camshaft and 10r3261 injectors then I could hook you up with a nice VVA OFF file for your 16:1 625 and keep your compounds.. just putting a 550 brake saver file in it with the 625 cam and injectors work excellent without deleting the VVA'S.
