From reading through this forum, it's fairly obvious that many have made mistakes in regards to which school they went to. I'm hoping to get as much info as possible on C1 in Fort Worth,TX. They are the closest school that is WIA approved. Any help would be much appreciated.

I went there about 2 years ago. I got my cdl and did fine once I left but don't expect too much in depth instruction. They pretty much left it up to the students. Learn enough to get your license and move on.

I went to C1 in St. Louis. an absolute joke. but I did somehow get my cdl. training was sitting in a trailer while the "teacher" read the cdl book from the DMV to us. kinda like daycare for adults. thought I was going to get raped at the motel most nights. good times.... spent a total of 3 hours on the road behind the wheel before my test. maybe a total 4 hours practicing backing while one of the instructors screamed and hit things with a golf club, too funny! while at the testing place there was another set of students from another school and we all talked. they received over 40 hours on the road behind the wheel!WTF hope your process goes much better. looking back though, I do have great stories and a good friend from that time and the cdl.

Look, C1 is a CDL school. They are there to get you your cdl, and that's that.
I went to the Fort Worth School.
All instructors were very nice. In case you're wondering, the equipment does suck, it is roached out, million miles plus, rickety tractors and trailers that are beyond crappy. However, what can you expect? 125, 000 dollar Kenworths? No! They are trucks that mostly can no longer pass inspection and thus aren't road worthy. If they were still road worthy, they would still be on the road.
The stuff certainly IS good enough, to teach you enough to get your CDL.
    So go get it.

The short answer is, as much as it takes. I got backing rather quickly, so I sat around and let others have the seat time, so they could move on. As they passed and moved to the next challenge, I would go back to the backing trucks and just practice. Now on the shifting range, there is a REAL disparity of natural talent vs those that are nervous and have difficulty. Again, I got it quickly, others just BRUTALIZED those gears. I cannot believe how much abuse those things shrug off! In the road trucks, you get two runs in the morning and two in the afternoon for 3 or 4 days.
It was enough for me, but not for others. The good news is, they'll keep trying with you IF YOU LISTEN TO THEM! If you do not do what they tell you to do, naturally they'll get ticked about it. I found their training totally adequate. However, there is only one thing that'll make it pay off...PAY ATTENTION!
