Got a broke valve cover bolt on my 6NZ, where can you find them, dealer only? Also, what is the factory torque specs on those bolts?

There is actually an update on those bolts for that very reason. The last truck I owned had a 6NZ engine, and I took it to my Pete dealer to have the overhead ran. They told me about the update and replaced all of the valve cover bolts. But what sucks is I had to pay for them.

I'll probably have to get them from the cat dealer. I bet Truckpro don't stock them and the local FL doesn't really do cat work so they'd have to order them I'm sure.
I used a 5/16 SS bolt and washer to hopefully work temporarily until I get get my load off tomorrow and get back and work on it. No leaks yet... -
If I remember correctly, the bolt kit was almost $200, which included gaskets. Either way, it's still high.

The update bolts are required for the thicker updated seals, the older thin seals are no longer available so if you have to change a leaking seal you have no choice but to change the bolts. The new bolts have a slightly taller spacer crimped onto them. If you have broken the bolt you can use a normal bolt if you can get the isolation spacer off the broken bolt, be careful of you use a normal bolt without the spacer or you will crack the tappet cover.
I have never seen one break the bolt, normally you pull the thread out of the rocker box, seen that one so many times I.ve lost count. -
If youre gonna change to the new gasket style, all you have to do is cut the isolation spacer "which is just a thick rubber washer" in half. That way the shorter bolt will work with the new thicker gasket.
Im not sure about just buying a new bolt. Seems like you ought to be able to go to fastenal and get a replacement. -

I ordered a couple from the local CAT dealer. They're only $5 and change. I asked about the two style bolts and he only came up with one part number off my serial. Maybe most all have been updated by now, do you know what the old style gaskets looked like? Mine has the round o-ring style. Seems small to me, I guess about 1/8" or so maybe bigger.
Yeah, the guy at CAT said it didn't list torque specs. He also said that bolt design was made to keep it from being over torqued, LOL, right... I guess if you pull the threads you have to heli-coil it.
I got a 5/16 SS bolt for a temp, and used a small flat washer and rubber washer under that and snugged it down on there. It didn't leak today.
