i am looking for a new to me truck. Would like to keep it under 75k but have a little room.

I have never owned a newer truck with DPF/DEF but it scares me. I have been eyeing used gliders with trucks 3-6 years old and Detroit 60 series 12.7 motors. Mileages in the 500k and under range.

Would a truck like this be a good idea? Alternatively I have found the same 3-6 year old trucks with emissions for the same price with less miles.

A simple search would have helped you with this question.

But since I am already typing. Stay a way from the S60 built in house be Fitzgerald. This has been discussed at length by a few members already. Some good information on those threads.

Thanks. I have been searching and was reading about the Chinese parts fitz uses. I actually am reading a bunch of threads right now learning all I can. Usually when people talk gliders they buy them new. I have not found much discussion on buying used ones.

I’ve read that buying a glider cost just as much as a brand new one from the factory. So.... pick your poison .

@Diesel Dave a used one? The OP is asking about the used market on gliders.

Correction; was brought to my attention that the OP said “Used”. I withdraw my post, thanks @Socal Xpress .

This seems to be the case. A brand new glider is as much or even more than a brand one from the factory. Either way I am not spending that much so I am looking used. For the same dollars I can get a lower mileage emission truck compared to a glider.

Let me pose this question. If they were the exact same price, same, year, same condition would you rather have say a glider with a 12.7 and 400k miles or a emission motor and 200k miles?

I’m gonna be in the same market by the end of the year. I need to “2010 my engine” by January 2020. But I’m definitely going with a “Red” Motor.

The question i would ask is "if those gliders are so good why are owners selling them at 500 000miles?"

That is a very good point and one I myself asked. The particular one I am looking at the owner traded in two identical 5 year old gliders on two brand new ones. They told me he owns around a dozen trucks and trades them in for new every five years.

If you search on truck paper there aren’t very many used ones for sale. People sell stuff for lots of reasons though. Business plans change, who knows. There is always the possibility of selling off a turd but that isn’t always the case.
