Buying a truck for hauling frac sand

    Hello everyone - I'm in the process of finding a truck to haul fracs and in south Texas. The truck will be pulling a pneumatic 1200 CF Hobbs trailer. I found a FREIGHTLINER COLUMBIA 120 with a Caterpillar C-12 380HP engine 3.90 ratio. Do you think this truck can do the job? Or what should I look for? Thanks in advance!!

    Depends if your going to go off road. Consider the clearance of the vehicle. Aerodynamics are ok, but that's not what your looking for if you go off road. Power maybe ok. I think I would go with a little more HP than 380. Transmission would be another concern. Off road with a 13 or 15(with deep reduction), Rears: 3.70,3.90,4.11,4.33, 4.44, or if you can still get them 2 speed rears, ie: 3.70 highway/4.33 off road.

    Almost forgot I have a friend that was going to do a similar operation in so. TX. He decided not to do it, because 1 of his friends had he's truck and trailer stolen. So trucker beware where you leave your truck or equipment at!!!!

    C12 can be uprated to 430 im pretty sure. 430hp and 3.90 rears is plenty for flatland texas. We run isx12 425hp with 8ll. Not sure on the rears but with regular 22.5 were at 1900 rpm @65. With this setup i can be 70k plus and not drop a gear running i80 all the way across pa

    We run compressors not blowers. Gardner Denver's on heil aluminum cans
