I am buying a kw w900 2017. My current ride is paid for... however I am constantly working on this thing and I spent 40000 last year not including down time caused by repairs. It will cost me around that maybe a little more to own this truck a year until it's paid off. However I won't have the down time associated with constant break downs. Any advice?? 2750 a month with it?? It's about what I make in one week net. So I don't think it be to hard to make it. Any advice would be appreciated. I already got approved all I gotta do is go sign my life away lol. I really want this truck should I pull the trigger? Or keep fixing on my current ride and keep driving it. Thanks

Kind of a personal decision if you ask me. $40000 in repairs (tax right off) that you need with a paid for ride. I'm in same boat there. That kind of money, you should be good to go, if it was on major parts like engine, tranny, rears. I love my old truck, 1999 and being e log exempt, its worth it to me to keep. I would never want to have to run to pay for another truck. Your operation is probably different than mine, but I can't justify the payments with all the new changes coming. Remember, warranty won't cover all things and lost revenue from being down is just that. Lost. Seems like the lines for newer trucks in the shops, are big. Now if that $40000 didn't replace major components, and you still may need to do them soon, maybe it's best to go new. Really need more details to be honest. I know this probably doesn't help much but it's my .02

Since I do all my own work, I can basically rebuild my truck to new condition for $45000-$60000 depending on how far I want to go. That's including paint and interior

I just had to show them my taxes from 2015 and 2016, and that was really it besides a credit check. Also it's a 2007 Volvo 670, and yes I had a inframe done cost of 27000, and replaced almost everything on that truck. And every time I think nothing else can break, the something else breaks. And I am sorry I was just my at my paperwork I actually spent 38000 total last year and probably lost thousands in down time. Still squeaked 100000 thousand. 2015 I did 160000. And the freight was so back and forth. I am thinking we're gonna see an increase in freight prices this year(I could be wrong) and the warranty supposedly will cover all mechanical systems including the after treatment systems. 4 year 500,000 kenworth warranty. Does that sound right??? Also I am selling my current ride. I am on my 10 in loxely Alabama right now driving it. It's a good truck however I just need more consistency and less down time. Being BRAND NEW. It should run a good year or more with no issues. I change my oil regardless every 15000. Especially in a emissions truck. Also I do most of my own work.

Carefull. The guy I'm leased to has 3 KW 680s with Cummins and eaton automated trans. The one that I drove was in the shop 3 times for DPF issues 3 times during that 6 months I drove it. It had 200k when I stated and about 250k when I started driving my own. One time was 6 days in a hotel in VA. Another truck cooked the motor at about 325k miles. They put in a new crate motor. Out of warranty. 6 weeks down time in WI. He got some help from cummins but was still a $30k bill for him. That was October. Truck has been in the shop every other week since and they don't know what's wrong with it. That truck was in the KW dealer 4 weeks before with engine problems to the tune of $8k. The third has constant codes for the auto trans.

He has a 06 kW 660 with an c15 cat with 1.1 mm now. Tires, oil, batteries and a round of brakes. It's a piece of #### but the #### thing starts every morning.

Mine is an old international 9200 with 700k I spent $15k on the truck only last year including 2 transitions. I thought that was steep without a rebuilt motor. I will do the rears and the engine this year to the tune of about $30k but should be good to go then I hope.

I want a new truck too but I just can't justify it for the kind of work I do. Home every weekend.

Good luck in your choice but new doesent men your out of the wood shed.... ask the guy I'm leased to.

If going new buy cascadia or kw 680 with fuel saving and almost no maintenance on first 3 years, your expense will be close what you have now. But the 900 will get almost 2 gallons less and that is half of your truck payment

What year model were those trucks?? I am buying 2017. You don't think they figured out the bugs in dpf yet? For what I've read they eventually clog up and need to be cleaned because at that point even regen won't clean them. A guy on you tube has 425,000 miles on a kw like a 2014 I think and hasn't had any issues yet. And I've talked to him at truck stops before, he bought his brand new. If I could go 3 years with no major issues god that be great. A guy in Georgia has a shop that does a bg like cleaning system for big rigs. I talked to the local school system there. There buses were constantly breaking down until they started using that cleaning system once a year. This shop is real reputable and I have used him for years. So I was thinking of doing the cleaning once a year on top of my 12-15000 mile oil changes.
