@OLDSKOOLERnWV Unfortunately there's no Rural King near me. I gave up on looking for cheap oil by the drum. It really doesn't exist in,my area. Local supplier says Wal Mart, Napa, Auto Zone, Tractor Supply - when these places have a sale on oil in buckets you're just not going to get it any cheaper.
bulk oil - 55 gallon drum - prices

From my minimal research on Tractors Supply Travellers Oil its a Warrens product, it contains more Zinc and Sulphur than the newer oil sold elsewhere which is supposed to be good for the engines metal, most oils have reduced the amount of these two ingredients to comply with the newer engines and the EGRs, so Im thinking if you have an older engine without an EGR this cheaper oil may be the way to go. A worker at Tractors Supply told me it was repackaged Rotella oil sold as their home store brand, I doubted her saying that, but she told me shes been working there for a long time and she knew it to be a fact, either way like someone else on here posted its only $40 a bucket its worth to at least give it a try.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
No way Traveler is repackaged Rotella. Not buying that one. Rotella has a really distinctive aroma from the blow by when you first fire the engine on a fresh oil change. Traveler doesn't have that. I don't know of any other oil I've tried that does it. Good Smelltella smells like a job well done lol.

Nothing wrong with that rollin coal...lmao Seriously, if that makes you feel better than that is all that matters. I like what Punksmacker said about travelers being good for old engines, like my Big Cam 3....
punksmacker Thanks this. -
And let me correct myself it is not sulfur that was taken out of the oil but zinc and calcium, sulfur was a byproduct of the older diesel fuel when they switched to the newer diesel they took some of the zinc and calcium out of the oils also but those two ingredients are used to clean the engine with so to have an oil that is higher in zinc and calcium would be a plus. But you're right Rollin Coal I am sure it's not a repackaged Rotella product because it is distributed by Warrens, the same company If I'm not mistaken handles Walmarts Super Tech oil, possibly the same oil, personally I wasn't impressed with the Super Tech oil I did a oil change once using the Super Tech seems I was having to add too much afterwards to keep it at the fill point but my truck was also due an overhaul which may be why it was using more oil then. If nothing else I would and do use the travellers oil for topping off between oil changes and if you want to really get JIGGY with it would probably be a decent oil to mix with a synthetic oil to make your own cheap synthetic blend. Its a thought anyway..

I've got Supertech in mine right now. A test run.

Ha ok hope it does the job for you. Let us know how it goes because me personally I would like to think there are some cheaper brands of oil that works as well as the expensive name brand ones. I did a search on Amazon a while back and noticed you can get a barrel of chinese full synthetic oil for around $500 delivered, thats a crazy low price but Im not gonna touch that one, I did see a brand that was interesting it was called Miles oil, seems to be an American company and they have a decent priced oil regular and synthetic.
