Do any of you buy your motor oil in bulk like that? I know cowpie has mentioned in the past that he gets a synthetic blend for cheap like that. I'm looking to save some money. I'm not picky about brand names or anything like that. What are you guys paying locally for your bulk oil?

We have found deals at sams club when drums are on sale after a change of grades, but getting a acc. at a oil supply warehouse will get you a good deal year round?

$10.50 gallon Mobile 1300 last week. Chevron Delo the week before at Wal Mart. They have 2-1/2 gallon jugs, but they don't go on sale and are actually more expensive.
You could probably get some " Orange Line " fleet oil dirt cheap.

Local oil distributor has $9.65 a gallon for some no name brand in a 55 gallon drum. That includes sales tax and $20 drum core charge, which is a one time charge. I thought that was high and pretty sure I can do better.

$10.50 is a good deal for the quality oil in my mind.
Either of those brands are great. They used to put that Chevron in the mixers. Nothing gets pounded harder than they do. Idle all day, constantly driving the final drive that turns the drum, plus crank it up to 1500 or 1600 to mix it, and during loading. That's good oil.

I just changed mine with the Mobile, did a load back from Denver 79,300#. About 100 miles of it is up down these 7% grades on a goat trail in Arizona.

Pressure dropped only about 3 pounds when it was really cooking, and came back up instantly when the water temp went back down to 200 or less.

When I bought my last truck, the Volvo, they had put that Orange line in it. I changed it, put in Mobile, then started truckin'.

That's what my wrench uses at the company he works at.
I'm just not a Valvoline man, but he says it's very good oil.

I think I'm just going to stick with how I've been doing it for years buying 5 gallon buckets on sale or even jugs. Doesn't really look like there's any savings with drums and so the hassle factor of messing with them makes it not worth the trouble. You guys all worried about specific brands of oil are paying a premium for no benefit. Valvoline Premium Blue or Shell Rotella are no better than Wal Mart Supertech brand. With Shell and Valvoline you're paying for massive advertising costs and racing sponsorships. If an oil meets the engine makers specs its good to go.
