Have you found that certain types of brokers are more likely to offer quick pay? What I mean is, if a broker offers quick pay, are they more likely to have been in business for awhile? Or are they typically a little larger? Do you guys notice any patterns or is it totally random?

Totally random. 1-5% or more to get paid in 2 days or a week or 10 days.... ...rip off. "Quick pay" is really just broker speak for bend over. Many carriers have cash problems. Brokers know this take full advantage. Many brokerages themselves also have these same cash problems. A good broker pays immediately upon receipt without making a huge deal out of it and/or charging an outrageous fee.

This post is correct. They all do it if the carrier is desperate enough to use it.

If you figure your charges for quick pay in terms of an APR, you will never do it again. It is an absurd percentage of your overall pay, probably up in the thirty percent APR range. Would you sign for a loan at thirty some percent APR? That's what it amounts to.

But I understand you may need it so badly it might not matter. I would suggest if you are going to do quick pay, find out the fee upfront and include it in your rate so it doesn't come out of your part.

It is funny how they market it to make a total rip off look like a "valuable service that we provide to our carriers".

After all, "one man's screwing is another man's good business".:biggrin_2552:

It is a shame that you the driver hauls there load for them and then they take 1-2% away from you on a thing called ''quick pay''...That is just so very sad to do that to the drivers..

It should be called quick robbery..

you can turn the tables with it though. Ask about their payment options and if all they offer is paper check net 30, tell them you charge a 2% processing fee for paper, or an additional 3% to wait 30 days for payment. I mean, why let brokers be the only ones collecting fees ?

If you order a pizza don't you have to pay when it comes? Maybe even a tip. What about the term COD? For some reason the tables have beed switched. I use my truck and pay for a lot of fuel and I have to pay a fee for getting it there. It should be free hell maybe a tip thrown in.

You pay a fee every time you use a credit or debit card of from 2-5%. There are fees for everything. I agree that brokers should pay upon delivery of the goods without a discount, but that isn't going to happen with most brokers. I have dealt with a broker who paid upon receipt of the bills. He would cut a check the same day the bills were received with no discounts on the money. If you want your money quickly, you will need to either factor your receivables or pay the discount rate. Just add a little to the rate to offset the costs, prior to taking the load.

Every once in a while we will get a broker calling our towing company because they have something no one else wants to move, boy do they complain when they get our rates and have to provide payment before we will dispatch a truck, most of the time the try to short pay us which is why we have the payment up front policy in place, but in the end they pay what we want and how we want it because no one else can or will move their load. I just did one from Belen, NM to Colorado Springs, CO last Friday, quoted $x.xx per mile and they sent a confirmation at a lower rate, called them back and they said "well we take xx% off the top for the quick pay and for dispatching" so my response was then the rate just went up to $xxx.xx per mile. Long story short, they first called us on Tuesday for this load and by Thursday night agreed to our rate and prepayment so that it was delivered on time Friday. Usually these loads are for oversized or non-running trucks, but they will call us to load or unload open deck freight also and they get testy again when we require payment before dispatching a truck, we are tired of completing a job and being screwed around collecting payment. I feel for you in the general trucking industry without any real leverage, specialized work is harder but also comes with less crap when it is time to be paid.

Its not the whole industry that has to go through crap. Its these ####### foreigners and scum bag truckers that have no business being out here, if you have to live load to load you shouldn't be out here. Why in the hell would you need paid everyday? You certainly can't maintain your truck if you cant afford fuel. Its sad but true, just like these bozos doing this lease purchase BS and telling everyone they are owner operators and they don't own ####..... And stop whining about QUICK PAY!!!! They don't force you to use it, they don't force you to haul their freight. They are offering a service and if your dumb enough to use it then so be it. Some rates aren't bad in a pinch. But do it every load and you should just lease onto a company that gives you a fuel card, probably only making 70 - 80 % by the time you let them take all of their fees..... It's a shame what has happened to this industry as a whole....... And stay out of the BUFFEETSA, and stay off the poker machines, and stay out of the titty bars, and the lot lizards gotta go. This is probably why they need cash everyday..........
