Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots star who was convicted of murder in 2015, killed himself in his prison cell Wednesday morning, officials said.
Hernandez, 27, was found hanging in his cell by corrections officers around 3:05 a.m. at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center, Massachusetts Department of Correction officials said in a statement.
He was pronounced dead an hour later.
Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit and hanged himself with a bed sheet attached to his cell window. He also tried blocking his door from the inside with various items, officials said.
An investigation was ongoing.
The death of the once-promising NFL tight end came almost two years to the day from when he was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. The 15th selection in the 2010 NFL draft, Hernandez was arrested in August 2013 in connection with Lloyd's June 2013 death.
On April 14, Hernandez was found not guilty in a double homicide seperate from the Lloyd case, however, he was already serving a life sentence in connection with Lloyd's murder.

Yup,Hernandez never gave any indication that he was going to take his own life, and as such he wasn't put on a suicide watch list.

What POS coward. Also, where his conviction for the first murder was on appeal, and he committed suicide while he was awaiting the appeal to be heard, the conviction is now vacated. Therefore, his wife will get access to all of his money and inherit any and all of his remaining fortune. I'm glad there's a special place in hell for people like him.

I've seen a few inappropriate memes about Hernandez and Steve.
I'll refrain from sharing on here but a quick Google search and they'll turn up.
Good for a laugh, anyhow. -
It's possible he was murdered in jail,

From the Boston Globe:
"...his lawyers appeared confident that they could overturn his conviction in the slaying of Lloyd..."
This could be the lawyers talking a big game. After all, win or lose, they'll make out like bandits for their fees.
But the scumbag was only 27. And you gotta be supremely confident in yourself to become a professional athlete. It's this same confidence that can fuel the belief that he'll win the appeal.
Maybe a switch went off. He figured that if he offs himself, his wife and daughter will have his estate AND his murder conviction is technically voided, both of which would give him some perverse sense of victory.
I'm not ruling out foul play.
