Curious what you guys paid for your last brake job on you drives, drums and shoes? I called around to a few places and was surprised at the amount the prices varied.

$600 from a shop in Houston....turn right when you leave the back exit of the Pilot and they are on the left.....cant think of the name of it
-
$600 sounds like an installed price for shoes only...and remanufactured ones at that.
-
So how much for brand new brakes ?
-
From the places I talked to anywhere from $800 - $1400. Had one shop tell me it was a 3 hr job for them and another was a 6 hr job. Always amazed at the variances from one shop to another.

Shoes with new hardware (stopbox) $45.00
Drum $100.00
Labor shoes .3 hr per wheel
Labor Wheels and drum per wheel position .3 hr
Totals
parts $145.00 per wheel position
Labor $60.00 per wheel position
$205 X 4 = $820
Based on labor rate of $100.00 per hour
Have brakes done when you install new drive tires and save .2 hr labor per wheel position (wheels are already off)Last edited: Nov 15, 2012

TA does them for 220-230 an axel the last time I remember.

I just had mine done, and it was $62.50 for premium shoes. One hour labor per side at $65.00 per hr., and drums were $120.50. So it would be $496 per axle if you do the drums. I didn't need them this time around, so I saved the drum cost. I personally would never have a truck stop do my brakes. There are too many good truck/trailer shops out there that will do it for a lot less, and you get an actual mechanic. For instance, the mechanic who did mine saw a wheel seal that was just starting to go bad. A truck stop mechanic would have missed it, costing me a lot more in the end.
