I have been adjusting brakes on 3 different trucks but constantly have problems with a 1998 pete. I adjust by having brakes off, turn until tight and back off 1/4 of a turn. The problem is after @ 1,000 miles or less the brakes are out of adjustment on this truck and you can turn them @ 1 full turn before they are tight. The brake pads are not worn out and are not wearing out. It has auto adjusters and friend told me to take them off and put manuals on. Am I doing it wrong or are my adjustors bad?????

I think the law prohibits you from changing a truck of that age to manual slacks.
If you have to continually adjust an auto slack, take it off and throw it out! It's junk.SHC Thanks this. -

Ditto again. Replace 'em.

Yup....pretty sure trucks newer than '94 are required to have auto slacks on 'em. If an auto slack needs frequent manual adjustment, it's junk & needs to be replaced.
Depending upon the style auto slack, SOME of them can actually be damaged and wear out prematurely by manually adjusting them too frequently.....so to manually adjust those as part of your routine maintenance is counterproductive.SHC and CondoCruiser Thank this. -

Just so you know, an auto-slack adjusted brake is adjusted by USE. The best way to do this is to do a bleed-down test by pumping the brakes about 60 times till you drain the tanks and the valve pop's out (you should already know how to do this I am assuming) It is very annoying to do, and please make sure you do it at a yard or shipping facility as not to wake up sleeping drivers at a truckstop, but that is how they work. Now if you have to keep adjusting them over and over again, then you need new slack adjusters, but try this first.

I have a 2010 cascadia and im getting horrible mileage. My load is barely 25k goin thru iowa and nebraska only getting 5.7 mpg. The truck needs an alignment and I know that affects fuel mileage some, but ive been thru the area many times before in 2 different trucks pullin much heavier loads and averaging near 8mph. I drive very conservativly...the,cruise control is helping a little but not much and it almost seems like I lose speed goin down small hills. The truck sat for the better part of the last six weeks and supposidly had a 200 point inspection, runs great, good power just awful mpg. Im worried if icant get good mileage out here whats gonna happen when I hit mountains...any ideas would be great.
