Bought a 2013 Kenworth T660. Looked it over really well. Had an independent shop look at it and the company I leased onto felt like I needed another DOT inspection.

Out of the 5 owner operator trucks my company inspected that day mine was the only one that passed first time. Felt pretty good.

Finally getting ready to get a load I hook up to a trailer. And no trailer brakes. First I'm mad because the trailer just came out of the shop and the stupid brakes aren't working.

But be before I notify anyone I trouble shoot to make sure it's not the truck. The trailer brakes will release and the suspension is building air. Red line is working.

Unhook the service line (blue) from the trailer and pull the trolley handle in the truck. No air, ####.

I inspected the line and removed it but there's no blockages, leaks, or cracks.

I'm 300 miles from home and since I just picked up the truck I had no tools so I dead head home.

I called the dealer I purchased the truck from because it's a safety issue and they were nice enough to send me a copy of my warranty. Unbelievable.

I get home and the next part to trouble shoot is the tractor protection valve. I removed the service line on the tractor side of the part and there is the air, which means I need a new tractor protection valve.

$65 dollars and two hours later I replaced the valve and now have air in both red and blue lines.

I apologize for the long winded post but just goes to show you, you can be careful and look over everything and still miss something.

Not having the option to call a company and say come fix your truck is a little nerve racking. But ultimately fixing it my self and it only costing $65 and a weekend load puts my nerves back at ease.

First week with my own truck and I was humbled but also found an even higher level of respect for owner operators that not only have the driver duty's but also the bankroll, mechanic, safety etc. duty's.

Wish me luck I'll need it. lol

Good job! You just got to try and figure it out. If you keep your cool and think logically about it you will get it figured out every time.

A very good friend of mine is a diesel mechanic, one or two texts and I usually know if I can fix it.

I wasn't convinced the valve was the problem because I expected the airline going to the valve to flex.

My buddy assured me that didn't mean anything. I had to find where my air was to figure out what was not working.

I'm glad it worked out and I didn't have to pay one or two hours of labor.
