Greetings, I have a load that I'm taking to Johnson City, TN. I want to take US 421 out of Winston Salem to Boone, then US 321 from Boone to Johnson City. Anyone know if US 321 is a good truck route between Boone and Johnson City? Or would I be better served going I 40 to Asheville then I 26 to JC

Depends on what route is best for you.
Your 1st route seem logical but how well do u know that route?
Yet that 1st route seem to be Quicker and. Reasonable.

Take that route unless its not a truck route then take i-40

You do have an atlas don't you?Look at it and see how it compares with the interstate.

There's a section of 321 along Watauga Lake that is pretty curvy, I would avoid it. I think you would be ok taking 421 on into Mountain City and then taking Tn67 back to hit 321 on the other side of the lake. Double check your atlas though because I'm not 100% sure that's ok for trucks.

It's all running the hollows with a bunch of 35 mph curves, 2 lane with no shoulders. You better be an experienced driver because there is a lot of shifting. It's doable and I would do it because there is a big difference going around like 100 miles. Just be on your toes for the curves. If you are in a 55 you are pretty much safe and the 35 zones be ready to slow her down. Curve signs are limited. Once you get to TN it eases up some and you follow a river. There is nowhere to stop except a little pull off at the state line. There is a big brick red church with a white steeple on the left before the 321 turnoff.

I'd cuss my dispatcher out for that run. They better give you a good one after this.

I would run 40. All that shifting your only using your strength. Interstate is where the fuel mileage is best.

Knoxville? I-26 runs from Asheville to Johnson City.

Short difficult route 54 miles, just a bunch of little hills and curves.

I-40/I-26.... 159 miles and you still have Black mountain and all the climbing on I-26.

    Knoxville 262 miles!!!
