They are probably hiring drivers or soon will be.

    Boaty's DriverSEA: 93.70
    Triple R's DriverSEA: 94.73

idk i usually see the same drivers all the time. im under the impression that they are all or mostly an owner-operator company. what does DriverSEA mean, and isnt the higher the number the worse it is.

After being around these numbers for a long time and working for companies that have these high numbers they really don't mean as much as people think. Why are the numbers that high??...........Well being produce and general reefer freight, they are probably allowed to run how they want as long as the load gets there on time but looks like alot of their drivers didn't know how to make it look legal.

This link will get you to a site where SafeStat is described:

    http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SafeStat/Method.pdf

It's 80+ pages long. DriverSEA is described in Section 4-7.

I wonder if these carriers will continue to use this rationale. If their drivers get busted because they don't know how to make it "look legal", who's gonna take the fall, the carrier or the driver? Or both?

The carrier might get a bad score or an intervention from FMCSA. The driver, however, will fight to find employment elsewhere!

If the DRIVERS CHOOSE to run like this then they ought to know how to present a legal looking log. But with CSA2010 both will be penalized and it still won't do the carrier any good to fire them after the fact, as the driver's infractions still count towards the carriers score for another 2 years wether employed there or not, now if they get a 2nd violation for running illegal the employer has a reason to fire them simply for not being bright enough to choose to do wrong but not make it look legal.

You're correct...I guess at some point it does come down to "choice"!

I guessing that Boatys does mostly, maybe entirely, short runs where HOS is not a big factor. I checked their violations and, lo and behold, they have not had a single OOS for HOS violations in the past 30 months. Mostly they get busted for speeding yet only one reckless driving violation! Their DriverSEA situation is probably a quick fix, i.e., "okay guys and gals, slow down!!

Triple R, on the other hand, had 20 OOS violations in the past 30 months....16 of the 20 were for log book violations. Maybe they need to get with the Boatys drivers and learn how to log!:biggrin_2559:
