Sorry I missed your post. Just got an email this morning showing where someone had replied to the thread.

How did orientation go for you?

Every driver is different and different situations. I personally would buy my own. I don't really know know any of the guys that have done the lease purchase thing with Blair. Maybe someone else can tell you more about that.

I doubt getting something to Houston would be a problem. Have you talked with Meagan? Meagan's a straight shooter and will answer your questions truthfully. She won't tell you something just because that's what you want to hear.

Oneperfectrun, I understand that there is going to be difference situation, for any number of reasons, this is why it's taken my 16 years to make up my mind. I am grateful for the knowledge I've gained, one is the most important knowledge is to ask for help. Get all the information I can get and sort through all the tidbit info and come to a reasonable conclusion; I was going to get me a double stack P/B or KW, but those bad boys are too high just for one way over the warranties. Decided to find a good used fleet truck freightliner, just to keep payments low and get payed for quicker, tho I hate to drive them. been driving Volvo's, freights over the past 16 years, would like to own a Pet or KW. Anyway, I'm currently recovering from shoulder surgery, getting ready to work on the other one at the end of the month. I've spoken with Meagan just before I started my shoulder repair and she does seem to tell it straight, but I still am worried about a good sales pitch. But then if it's an owner operator company their success is our success. I do have just a short time on flat bed experience, but she seemed that would just fine. I have enough money to start with a down payment and probably the first week of fuel. I live in NC, so I'll purchase my truck here and bobtail to Alabama, she said they will reimburse me for the fuel, (or the fuel surcharge), can you explain to me what does 100% fuel surcharge actually mean? I've had a couple driver try to explain it to me, maybe I'm a little slow to grasp what it means. Brother, thanks for your advise. God Speed

On the 100% surcharge, what they are saying is the driver gets 100% of the fuel surcharge. Company isn't keeping any percentage of that. A lot of company's will take some of that and keep for themselves. If the surcharge is $100 the driver gets every dime of that, not $85 and the company keep $15. That's my understanding. Any other drivers are welcome to correct me if I'm explaining this wrong.

The surcharge changes daily with fuel prices here. The last place I was leased adjusted the surcharge once a week and it never seemed to keep pace with fuel prices. Quick to drop but slow to rise. I'm certain they were pocketing some of it.

Ive been leased on here at Blair going on 3 years now and I've still yet to find anything different from what they told me when I was talking to them about working for them. My experience has been 100% positive. Others may tell you otherwise but I myself cant say anything bad about them.

I'm an owner operator and signed on with Blair Logistics in February. I own 4 trucks and had 1 with Blair, which I drove myself.
1st thing you want to know is that they have some of the cheapest loads in the industry.
2nd thing you want to know is that you will deadhead (drive empty) approximately 1000 miles a week, without being paid!
To the guy in GA I say stay away!! There are no loads coming out of GA so you will have to travel a few hundred miles for free every time you want a load from home, and travel home for free. GA is a no go zone for Blair for some reason.
3rd thing you will want to know EVERY LOAD IS A TARP LOAD. I've had customers tell me the load didn't need to be tarped but the dispatcher said it had to be. When I got to cosignee I asked and no tarps were ordered.
Yesterday, after I dropped my load in TN, I called the dispatcher to let him know I was empty. Wanted me to drive 250 miles to Birmingham to get a load. I checked the free load boards on the internet and found a load 70 miles from me paying way better than the company load.
Blair does have a lot of work. That's because they charge their customers way below industry rates. Since being there and working every single day I've had one load pay over $1200 and that was a load going from Alabama to California.
If you wanna tarp every load and work your ### off and make the same $$ as Vans then Blair is for you.
They sell the company well, try to say it's all owner operator run. How can that be if you have a lease purchase program?
They try to say it's 50 50 tarp and they get tarp pay... lol Yeah when you start working you'll figure it's all tarp and no extra money for tarping.
I'm a fleet owner and I pay my drivers better than anyone else, because I am a driver also and try to be fair. I want to treat people and pay them what I would want to make. I couldn't figure out a way to pay a driver enough top have one drive for Blair. My flatbed guys make between $1500 and $2200 a week and have never tarped a load. A truck will not make enough for me to pay a driver working with Blair.
Yeah you can make $2000 to $3000 a week driving for Blair, but you will not be home every week. And forget about a paycheck the week you do go home.
The company claims the owner operators are the customer and of course the loads come from customers but we really work for owner operators.
You'll find out differently very soon after joining.
That load I found in TN on the internet was paying me $4,000 to go to Midland TX. I had the broker call my dispatcher to set up the load for me. The dispatcher turned it down. I called he said they wanted to find me a load coming towards Birmingham. That was the last straw with me. I own trucks to make money not to go where a dispatcher wants me to.
