i have "almost" went with them a few times in the past, the owner, ken staub, and his son derrick, i think, run it.Nice guys, i genuinely liked them, and that is rare, because most places i have worked have "lester the used car salesmen"types for management.
they are a very old company, they date back to when steel was a BIG deal in buffalo, now they have downsized just as much as local steel. I guess they run mainly between Detroit and Buffalo, with some business around the other normal steel area's of cleveland/youngstown, and gary indiana. I used to bs with a couple of guys that worked there, he said bennies were on par with everywhere else, not great, but much better than nothing. percentage pay, except for the 2 or 3 daycabs, those guys get hourly pay with ot. not sure if they have a 401k match or not.
Nice equipment, the Green T800's are all "Staub Trucking", and pull the sleds back and forth to michigan, and other trips that are longer. I was told that Black Rock is more regional, and usually stays within 250 miles or so, and gets you home a little more. although i think the staub drivers get home during the week as well, just not as much as Black Rock.
I am pretty sure you will need a fast card to work there, all the stuff they handle is usually crossing the border. btw, moffett experience is a plus, they do some brick and much hauling on short tri axles with moffetts on the back. those are always behind a daycab when i see them, though...
Also worth noting that the guy I knew said "without a doubt, better than Ficel." You can make a lot of money at Ficel, but supposedly they treat you like crap. Ficel only gets you home on the weekends now, too, since most of their steel is coming out of canada and going west. There are a couple of other companies that do similar things, Capacity Transport has some trucks with drivers out of the Buffalo Area, that only bounce back and forth to Detroit, as does Alco Transportation out of Detroit. Price Transport over on Hopkins St still does some steel hauling, but they have branched out into hazmat containers and remediation as well. -
Thanks for the info already done , really very helpful yes iv spoke with Derrick he seems like real good straight forward guy . There drivers seem to be happy not sure how well there drivers do on what they make . Yea iv spoke with ficel and I told them to fly a kite after talking to me like I was a piece of dirt cause he was having a bad day . Really aiming towards black rock / staub unless I find something bad about them real soon cause derick wants to meet with me tomarrow he said everything is looking real good so really all in all they look like a solid company . One of there drivers told me he completed lease purchase and bought a couple trucks off them which to me was shocking to hear it was actually a good lease purchase . Normally there setup to make drivers fail and make company money . I guess I'll see what else ill find out about them thanks for your input

yeah, whatever they do with their o/o, it works, because i always see the same trucks, it seems like they must do ok. I would imagine its one way to make very consistent money, and also get very good home time, something that a lot of o/o in other sectors of trucking would have a hard time getting.
there are a couple of o/o that park their rigs down on the indian res. by where i live, and their trucks are parked there just about every night, either loaded or empty. they must be running down to cleveland or something, but that must be nice, to be able to get home every night and still make decent dough running your own truck.
I doubt that anyone there is a millionaire, but it seems like you could definetly nail down 50k a year there as a company driver.
btw, if it doesn't work out, maybe talk to capacity, as they do about the same thing.... -
yea they told me that as a company driver depending how i wanna run i can put down 40-50,000 a yr so i can deal with that and be home most nights or even every other night yea no problem there. thanks for so much good info , ill have to check out capacity never heard of them but a everything is really looking good here but a back up plan is always good . ill be posting updated info on them as i know if i do decide to go with them.
