They were the first company to offer me a job after I applied at a bunch of places. The offer seemed legit. I started in March, they asked if I’d be willing to do a few days of “mountain driving training.” Most of my experience over the past 20 years has been in BC, Washington, OR and California, but I understand a trucking company needs to be cautious and self emprovement is always welcome so I agreed to do a trip from Calgary to Vancouver with one of their trainers. They didn’t tell me I’d have to pay for it, there’s no way I would have agreed to that. The trainer was like 30 years old maybe? Told me he spent most of his career driving a shunt truck at the Walmart warehouseman Calgary. What a waste of time! And it ended up being a lot longer than I’d been told. But, after that they were great, lots of miles, dispatchers and fleet manager were awesome. Then I decided I wanted to take the winter off. Work on my tan, get in shape, enjoy the fruits of my labor. I worked my ### off for six months, took 4 days off in July, but apart from that, resets and work. I have never had an employer take my paycheque before! What a shock the first time it happens. The scoundrels! The past six months my fleet manager has been telling me what a great job I’m doing, number 4 in the fleet in August, keep up the good work! These people are so sneaky! I feel so embarrassed, I told my friends what a great company I work for. So stupid! I gave them notice on Wednesday and on Friday my paycheque was $148! WTF! I was supposed to do a trip from Calgary to Pittsburgh on Saturday, but they stole my paycheque! Hell no! They still owe me for a bunch of loads and Vacation pay but I don’t think I’m gonna get it. When you go in the terminal, they seem like kind hipster folk with neatly trimmed beards, but the management, they will screw you. They’re not good people. Don’t do it!
Bison Transport, so diabolical, so evil.

Visit the terminal manager at his home about dinner time and make it clear why you are there. Hopefully his family are there so yell loud so they are aware of how much of a ...............
he is. I collected years ago from a guy in Southern Ontario the same way. His wife was settling up with cash when he came home.
Beyond me why employees of companies rip off strangers, for what. Brown nosing their superiors who will hang them out to dry at the drop of a hat.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 22, 2018

Down here its good to have a concealed carry permit. Show up with a gun around dinner time along with a Deputy Sheriff with his gun. 2 guns sticking out plus a member of law enforcement will scare people.
At that point they have 3 options:
1) Get arrested
2) Get shot
3) Pay any money owed.
Normally they opt for choice 3.

First, don't do anything as foolish as those mentioned in these posts. Second check your employee handbook, your company probably has a separation process. Wait for that process to take it's course. This may include an inventory of all company equipment and an exit interview. Third refer to the company handbook to see when your final check will be disbursed, it might be mailed to you, or you might have to pick it up in person. Even if you have direct deposit chances are your final check will be a paper one.
Let us know how this all turns out, and best of luck with your new company.Aamcotrans, Sebas, Frank Speak and 3 others Thank this. -
Almost eleven years with Bison on my side.
Were they all flawless? No. But they never missed a payday. For the last 7 years, I'm an O/O with them. Paydays are the 15th and the last day of the month. If one of those should happen to be on weekends, the money was always paid on Friday, never on Monday.
A similar situation that I know of happened to a friend of mine. About half of a week was missing on his paycheck. He brought it to their attention and got it paid next week.
Just running away without trying to find a solution is not the proper way.
Crying on the internet is no solution either.
I'm sure you'll have it on your final paycheck if you brought the problem to your fleet manager's attention. -

Sure they make mistakes at times, but I just brought it to their attention and it would get straightened out.
As stated, some companies may hold some money until some period of time so that a final settlement would be issued.
I did work for one carrier though that actually had an “90 day estoppel “ clause in the contract.
Meaning that if by 90 days you did not bring an error to their attention, then the amounts paid would be considered correct and you would have no further recourse to collect. -
.
its total BS
if you had a permit and a weapon the sheriff would have taken both from you
there are very few incidents of permit holders brandishing weaponsTowman33, stillwurkin, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this. -
So sorry about your situation! I don't know how it works in Canada, but please DON"T show up with a gun or you're going to prison. In the USA if you quit you have to wait until the next pay day to get your pay check and you forfeit your Vacation days. If you're fired then they have to pay right then and you get your vacation pay also. Look I your Handbook and if you can't find your answer go to the Human Resource at he company. Good Luck!
